Thanks Tom.
My camera's a Canon XL2, and I record in SD, 16:9.

DVD burners
Is there anything inside a DVD burner that needs “cleaning” from time to time, in the same way as a DVD player needs the periodic use of a lens cleaner? If so, are such cleaners available for DVD burners? The gist of my query is: Does the capacity of a DVD burner to produce Best Quality deteriorate ...

Re: MIN DV TAPE / STOREAGE
Thanks for that useful information, Col, but I think I probably confused the issue when I wrote "archival", altholigh that is obviously a crucial consideration. Why I'm primarily interested in the idea of burning projects to gold DVD discs is so that when I present family and friends with ...

Re: MIN DV TAPE / STOREAGE
Thanks for this info, Trev.
Do you, or anyone else, know of any make of archival gold discs capable of 8.5GB Double Layer, so that projects lasting more than one hour can be burned at Best Quality?

Re: Judges and their credibility
Just a thought…if Willy is “not against documentaries at international festivals” (which means he probably is!), and others are arguing that that the days of the holiday-cum-travelogue film “is over” and is no longer of interest for non-pro, non-commercial film festivals, what categories are we left...

Re: Converting 4:3 to 16:9
Just to say I’ve succeeded in converting 4:3 to 19:6, so that the converted 4:3 can be used with widescreen material without corrupting the latter. And it was so easy. I followed your explanation, granfer, and it worked a treat the first time. I couldn’t believe it: I thought I was going to have to ...

Re: THE NAME OF OUR ORGANISATION
I appreciate that probably the biggest obstacle in a name-change for the IAC is a logistical one, allied with a financial sting. But at some point the IAC must embrace the 21st century and become reconciled to the fact that many amateur enthusiasts who make video films yhese days are, in quite a few...

Ah, we learn smething new every day, Dave...I somehow thought that internet forums were immune from spam, but now I know that that's one definition of naivety.

Re: you can soon
Am I alone among IAC members using the forum who has been receiving what appears to be spam? It hadn't yesterday on all four forums, a load of gibberish on each of them. Nobody mentioned it yesterday, so I'll mention it now because it's happended again this morning, on all but the first forum - that...

Re: Converting 4:3 to 16:9
Thanks, everyone, for offering three very different solutions for converting 4:3 to 16:9, all of which sound good. I’ll give it a whirl, Chris and Granfer, over the weekend when other demands are not taking up so much of my time. Yes, I realised that the top and bottom parts of the pictures would be...

Re: Converting 4:3 to 16:9
Thanks again for the helpful info.
I'll try this if all else fails.
But I think I'll wait momentarily in case anyone can guide me towards the dedicated Pinnacle Studio facility that's apparently available for the 4:3-to-16:9 conversion I'm seeking.

Re: Converting 4:3 to 16:9
Thanks, Roy1. You mention Sony Vegas Movie Studio platinum 9 but, as I mention in my initial enquiry, I use Pinnacle Studio 14 Ultimate. Would, I wonder, one specific editing tool be compatible with another specific editing tool? My particular challenge is to insert five or six video scenes shot in ...

THE NAME OF OUR ORGANISATION
Hi, Lee, glad to hear that you too think a change of title for the IAC is long overdue. Never mind the "Amateur" bit, I'm not all that happy with the "Cinematographers" bit either, though I realise it stems from the days when members were more into 8mm celluloid than memory cards...
