I think Michael (seeing his films) has led quite a filming career! His films are certainly a mix of things. You must have some funny or serious storys under your belt to tell. For example, while filming your rowing boats film ... Did you fall in the water!!?? Or while filming your Bowls film... Did...

Re: The strangest place that you have filmed?

I don`t really have any storys on this! I have to think of one. I was just doing a brainstorming session and wondered what the group here had filmed that was strange or unusual? I`m bound to think of something myself. My brains gone dead   I did have the offer (subject to the zoo agreein...

Re: Your Next Camcorder?

Now, I seem to have horrified some of my friends by saying I don't keep camere originals once a production is completed. Why on earth should I? I never go back to re cut a film. Once it's done it's done as far as I am concerned, even if that wise old owl Watterson suggests ways it could be improved...

Partly for me but we have two professional historians in the family who regularly sweep family memoribilia for their personal archive. They have also pointed out that most communication nowadays is ephemeral (telephone calls, text messages, e-mails etc) and leaves no trace for future historians who...

Re: Your Next Camcorder?

I agree that there are issues with the new XDCAM system but there will be plenty of options for storing your raw camera material. Personally, when I have finished a film I don't keep the camera originals anyway, I only keep master tapes (HD as well as DVCAM) of the final production. I suppose one w...

Help with transfer from Super VHS

Sorry about this, but I have a friend who would like a longer version of a film I made on DVD. Unfortunately I can only find a copy on Super VHS. I can't copy to VHS or SVHS as I only have one machine now. I can't get the data into my computer as I dont have any sort of card fitted that has an SVHS ...

But don`t bring the BBC into this please. This is one of the best things that England has ... I would not disagree that the BBC is still one of the best things we have, or at any rate "had" - (and not just England!!) but it is pretty damaged and it probably won't last much longer. In the ...

So if enough Belgian film makers and clubs decided not to kow-tow to the CvB they could probably do so - but they could not expect to continue to get funding and support from it. Once you have had funding it is very difficult to do without it. I do not want to focus on Belgium - a country in which ...

In my mind the British are also Europeans (look at the globe !) and I'm sure that also Dave has that feeling. He's not against Europe at all ! On the contrary ! We are sort of European - in as much as we love Europe and it's wonderful culture, languages and peoples. But we don't like our laws being...

I do still have mixed views on using proffesional actors through. It`s not with my spirit of what it`s all about. That`s my opinion. Ian I don't think there is anything wrong with using professional actors in an amateur production, as long as the crew and director - editor, lighting, etc are all am...

Here Willy has touched on something which does not happen so much in Britain or the USA ... professional actors being willing to take part in amateur productions. It does happen now and then - Alan Colegrave's "Reasons" is a fine example, as is Alisan Beadie's "The Party". But f...

Many years ago the traditional amateur movie club Finchley Cinevideo Society made a short called "The Anna Contract". They made it as amateurs and took part in competitions. It was spotted by a film distributor who bought it to use as the supporting film for a feature he was distributing....
