Re: BIAFF RESULTS 2023

I did not put a film in this year, but I think one of the nice things about BIAFF is the chance to get more exposure for films. Even if they are not shown at the Festival a link can be put on the BIAFF website with the star rating. My hope has always been that I might meet up with other film makers ...

Re: BIAFF RESULTS 2023

I completely understand Howard. When you have made a high quality film it needs to be shown in a blacked out cimema where the audience is subsumed, like in "Un Chien Andalou" . Peferably with a big audience.

Is it possible nowadays? Answers on a postcard!

Re: Who?

They say: "History is a foreign land" and sadly The 10 Best is now history. It seems Google has a certain amount of AI generated content now often the first entry after a search is a summary of the subject which could have been created by AI. I put Amateur Film Making in UK into Google and...

Re: Playscore2

I get music from the YouTube Music Library for my Videos. It suits me fine for what I do. I don't think I am breaking any law. It is not only the music score which can be copyright but also the performance, and whether the venue where the performance was filmed was licensed. I have noticed in Tesco ...

Re: Who?

First a reply to Tim: I have been playing with ChatGPT, as well, great fun. I have been generating a poem for our Parish Mag. It will be useful for writing scripts and making YouTube vids. We are at the beginning of something! The subject of the Ten Best has come up again!! There are web pages about...

Re: A Bunch of Amateurs

Phew! There is no-one to set up your student system, is there? If the IAC/BIAFF is going to go down the route of wanting commercial like films then there may be the need for amateur film makers to keep up with the amazing state of the art AI software which is now available. I am a slow learner so if...

Re: A Bunch of Amateurs

No Tim, I don't think it is "a different outlook". We are film makers, whether we wish o make a career out of it or not. The aim of the activity is identical, to make good films. That is the aim of both, yes, but for we amateurs, that is it. We aim to make the best film we possibly can ba...

After nigh 40 years of a break from film making I'm back at it before I kick the bucket....
...an animated bucket of course :-)
That is amazing to be starting again film making after 40 years, I wonder what you will come up with?

Made because they appeal to me! :-)

How can anyone sit down and think,
"Now what film can I make that will appeal to Tom. Dick or Harry?"
Have you put films into BIAFF? If so how did they do?

Re: A Bunch of Amateurs

Going back to "A Bunch of Amateurs" Mark Kermode has had a similar reaction to the film as me! He loved the documentary seeing it as a story of family and overcoming of adversity. :P

Re: A Bunch of Amateurs

I am glad Howard has been exploring the indie film festivals, I aspire to make films, one day, suitable for doing the rounds. But it can seem like some of the Festivals (competitions) are possibly racketeering and only interested in your money or showing insider films. It would be interesting if som...

Re: A Bunch of Amateurs

The film was an eye opener for me because I did not know people like that existed. I think the film was representitive of most of the Amateur Film Clubs in the UK, and I think most of them will close. Most of the serious filmmaking starts at universities and then graduates go on to work for TV compa...

Re: A Bunch of Amateurs

What an amazing group of people! To me the theme was the passing of time and the human condition. By that I mean the film showed how members of the club experienced being human. The dreams, excitements and challenges. Thank-you Bradford Movie Makers for letting the BBC4 film company document the act...

Re: 50 plus year old film !

If the world is still here in 50 years time, I wonder what people will think of our films? Perhaps they will be revered like the pop culture of the 1960's!
