Editing Software

I have arrived a bit late on this topic having been busy editing on another computer. I would not have my editing computer on line, much too dangerous for corruption (media files, not me!). I use Media 100 for editing. It is now owned by Boris and has all their wonderful soft ware incorporated for t...

As many of you know I have been shooting in HDV for a while now and have actuall completed four films, teo of which were screened at this year's BIAFF. I find that even when downscaled to DV the pictures are better than from my previous high quality Sony DSR 300 (DVCAM) camera but the projector has ...

DVD's For America

This issue is topical for me right now as I have recently been with a number of American friends on our annual meet up in the Caribbean where I filmed an event and they all want copies of the finished production. Last year I sent PAL DVD's which they could play on computers but this year I am sendin...

File Handling

This is certainly an on going problem. My strong feeling is not to attempt to store past productions or even media other than that needed immediately on hard drives, whether internal or external. I have about 5 TB's since I am working with HD and in order to nurse the best performance from my drives...

No Billy, I was not talking about copying DVD's through S Video but the proper way, in a computer using software that we use for burning our DVD's in the first place, Titanium Toast. That way the discs are identical with no degredation.

I much prefer the quality of tape if that was the sole criteria, but it ain't. I can caragorically state that my DVD's never fail to play perfectly on any machine, cheap or expensive at any speed you want. Here's my formular ; Encode with BitVice using variable bit rate with an average of 7.5, a low...

Travelling Abroad

I faced exactly this problem only last month. My camera bag just complies with the new regulations and I managed to fit in four mics, three batteries, nine tapes, cables and some other kit like a mobile DVD / CD player, discs etc. I checked the tripod in as regular baggage in a locked canvas carryin...

Lighting

I have had to make one or two films in places with very low lighting. I try and do without taking my own lights as I am generally in situations where that is impossible. Have you tried upping the gain on the camera? I recently did this on my HDV Sony and was amazed at the pictures obtained in a pret...

I absolutely agree with Tom and Peter, let's just have one group of correspondents, it's all to do with film making and we do need to talk more about the craft itself rather than bitch about how the IAC is run. Can someone act on this?

Peter, they most certainly do not make the soaps up as they go, my daughter has been in Emmerdale for a year now and spends all her time learning scripts! No rehearsal time but certainly no ad libbing allowed.
