Re: Copying from Humax HD digital PVR

I tried that, Tim, but didn't know how to open it on the computer, ie what programme to use. Sorry, Peter, I'm not sure I understand. Which file at this stage are you tying to open - the file on the USB stick or on the hard drive? In other words are you trying to do the copy (from USB stick to exte...

Re: Copying from Humax HD digital PVR

The other issue (I think) with FAT32, is that it can't handle file sizes over 2gb Actually it's 4GB, Chris (FAT16 is 2GB - although some sources quote differently). This 4GB limit would coincide nicely with the comment from Peter's friend that the PVR has a max file size of 4GB. So unless there are...

Re: Future for clubs -

Just need somewhere for the like-minded people to get together in the first place ... A club, maybe? That's rather what I thought I was joining when, as someone who'd just bought his first camcorder, I joined Staines in 2006. Wrong! I discovered I'd joined a social club where videos were just an ex...

Re: Copying from Humax HD digital PVR

Peter, I suspect the message was that the file system is NTFS, not the file (though you may be correct and the message is the result of a poor translation). NTFS is a file system - effectively a way in which files are organised on a disk (or other device). It was introduced with Windows NT and has c...

Re: speaking to the camera

I see it slightly differently (or possibly just use different words) to Willy. In my view: Someone who talks to the person just to the left/right of the camera = interviewee. Someone who talks directly to the camera = presenter. Many people are uncomfortable or find it difficult to talk to a camera....

Re: Very special event

I'm sure you'll find plenty of use for it, John. Wish i had one. I was rather disappointed in the video you linked to though. It demonstrated well how the wind noise was dramatically reduced, but didn't demonstrate at all how the sound one might want to capture is affected. It would have been so muc...

Re: The Magnificent Bronzes of St Pancras

No I did not ask permission to film. I respect genuine security issues but do resents silly paranoid restrictions in public places! Is there a law against it? As an aside, technically St Pancras is not a public place (as is the case with many places we think of a s public - eg shopping centres). As...

Re: You Tube

it is notable how the assumption is that everything on the internet should be free! In fact, most significant things are (kind of) free, but that's because they're paid for by ADVERTS! Couldn't agree more, Chris. What surprises me is that whilst one might expect this attitude from the younger gener...

Re: Club Films on Youtube

Instead, we've decided that if a member has a YouTube account, and their films are online, we will link to their YouTube copy from our Database, and if necessary, from our website too. That way we are happy to publicise any members' films, but they have the responsibilities, and the viewing numbers...

Re: What baffled you when you began filming?

One simple thing that can get over looked... (as I did)...carry a bottle of lens cleaner and cloth, especially when filming near the sea  ...but don't expose your lens to the sea! Screw on a clear or Ultra-Violet filter and leave it on your camera. Clean that. And when you scratch it, well, s...

Re: Help

It's probably too late for this weekend, but I would have thought you want a selection of material where they are playing to the camera and where they are not. I don't know how much you get to see them, but if you get the camera out every time they'll soon become accustomed to it and begin to ignore...

judging "targetted" films

Prompted by a question raised by Peter C on http://dialog.theiac.org.uk/dialog/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2906 and by his suggestion to move the discussion to a more sensible place. Do/Should judges take into consideration the target audience when judging a film? And if so, how? Example: a film about ...

Re: Portland Spectacular

Congratulations on coming runner up in the competition. A lot of time and effort clearly went into making this film. I got the impression you used several cameras on this. The quality of the images differed quite significantly and I also found the difference in the colour balance between some shots ...

Re: The Magnificent Bronzes of St Pancras

Wow! That frieze is something, isn't it? And here was the perfect opportunity for using a video camera to capture the depth & perspective. Given this was "snapped in passing" I thing you show remarkable steadiness of hand and smoothness of action. Only a proper circular dolly or glidet...

Thanks for posting that Chris. Very simple. Very clear. Should be part of all clubs policies as a matter of course.
