Re: Adobe Creative Cloud

I wonder if you have inadvertantly downloaded a trial version of Creative Cloud? The last version of Photoshop that was available to buy was CS6. To the annoyance of many of their customers Adobe decided, with very little warning, that future versions of Photoshop would only be available as the Crea...

Re: Clubmate Douglas Boswell toHollywood?

The film looks amazing and I hope it gets a UK release. I remember Douglas's films from BIAFF and also the Guernsey Lily and thinking at the time that he would do well in the commercial sector.

Re: Celluloid memories

When my own club, Dalziel Cine and Video Club in Motherwell, had to close down a few years ago I made sure that the club's films (i.e. fiction films and documentaries made by the club) were preserved and donated to the Scottish Screen Archive who were delighted to receive them. The films dated back ...

Re: BIAFF 2014

Geoff - here's some of my thoughts on "Karen's Room" which I have watched and enjoyed. I must say that I took the film at face value and didn't read all the sub text or Freudian references into it that Ned has done though I did spot the homage to Men in Black. People react to the situation...

Re: FVM April 2014

I've just finished reading my FVM and don't understand why Col is so upset. I found something of interest in all the articles including the book review which, funnily enough, mentions an old film by Dalziel Cine and Video Club in which I had some involvement. I happen to know Ian Craven, one of the ...

Re: Happy Christmas Everyone.

Thanks for this wonderful compilation Desmond. I also remember the days of the "full supporting programme" in the 1960's when you could usually see a couple of films, newsreel, trailers and, if you were lucky, a cartoon. These days may have gone in the commercial cinema but they live on am...

Re: Super 8 camera

And there was me thinking that the gauge wars were dead and buried! To those of us who made a lot of films in the Super 8 format it was most certainly not rubbish, in spite of its limitations compared to what we have today. But surely that is the point - until video came on the scene Super 8 was all...

Re: Aspect Ratio for Older Films?

Personally, although I much prefer the 16 x 9 format, I'd rather watch films in the correct aspect ratio as filmed and it doesn't bother me to see 4 x 3 and 16 x 9 in the same programme. I'm uncomfortable with 4 x 3 films being cropped to 16 x 9 because I think it tends to spoil the picture composit...

Re: Pan HC-X920 camcorder query

Peter - my booklet is A5 size, the illustrations are in black and white and there are 202 pages on good quality paper and very well printed. it's much more convenient than a CD as I can take it with me in case I get stuck!

Re: Pan HC-X920 camcorder query

Just as an aside it is possible to purchase printed copies of camera manuals from OTC Ltd at www.oldtimercameras.com

Don't be put off by the name - I recently bought a manual for my X920

Re: CLUB PROMOTION

I would suggest exploring as many avenues as possible. Try and make contact with the editor of your local paper and see if they are willing to do a feature to promote the club. Put posters and flyers in local libraries and community centres. Some supermarkets will also let you put a notice on their ...

Re: End of the consumer camcorder

As an experiment I tried shooting a video last year using a Canon G12 compact and the results were exceptionally good. The problem I found was that it is extremely difficult to keep a stills camera steady enough for movies and I had to use a mini tripod as a rudimentary pistol grip to reduce the amo...

Re: Elmo Gs1200 (Xenon) on e\Bay

I see that the projector belonged to Ron Challen so it will have been exceptionally well looked after. These were superb projectors, built to last and much coveted by keen Super 8mm film collectors so I'm not surprised that it attracted a premium price.

Re: Camera-Action-YouTube.

I think what we are probably seeing is many people simply having fun with their smart phones, taking the movie equivalent of the snap shot and enjoying sharing it with others on social media sites and Youtube. When I started out in the mid 1960's my first cine camera cost £10 and on my fairly meagre...
