Re: Getting our Films Seen.

I am an admirer of your work, Michael, so this is in no way sarcasm or any other derogatory 'ism but do you happen to know, or does anyone else, how many viewers watched to the end?

Re: It really is time!!!!

Right, Dave, and others, but will you agree that there is no film NOT worth making? It may only be for practice but it is somebody's work and is worth doing and getting a judge's comment, on whether or not it is well made. It should not matter that the subject doesn't interest us personally. (If the...

Re: It really is time!!!!

hobby documentaries. What are these, Dave? Do you mean documentaries about hobbyists? We make serious documentaries to the best of our abilities about real people doing real things. maybe we ought to weight or categorise the competitions according to how many years their creator has been making fil...

Re: MIN DV TAPE / STOREAGE

Do discs deteriorate more with use or only with age? In other words, does a gold master last a shorter time if repeatedly copied or doesn't it make any difference, and it will still last 100 years?

Re: DVD burners

I too would like to see this in FVM, ie on one bit of paper that I can keep until the next more up-to-date article comes out! Suggest it should be in two sections eg 1. Basic. You've got a burner that the person who built your computer put in. Before using it check that it is set for ... and, if pos...

Re: How do I know it is 16-9?

This is very naughty of me but I couldn't resist -

My WHS diary quote for 14 July says :-
'A wide screen just makes a bad film twice as bad.' (Sam Goldwyn)

So, like Dave apparently, I think I'll stick to 4:3, hoping my films will be half as bad.

Re: Who is on location where?

Peter Copestake will be infiltrating some local business to record what has made it great.
Actually, liaising with the demolition gang who are knocking it down, Dave, and it was the last one in the UK. More at NW FF and BIAFF 2011, I hope.

Current issue FVM

I have NOT changed my email address. Those of you who know it please continue to use the last one you had not the spurious one in FVM - not, I suspect, Garth's fault.

Re: Do we need a new editor for FVM?

I appreciate the magazine as it is. It is a major part of the benefits I get from membership. It is cheap compared with going to a festival and has a lower carbon footprint. If anything has to be done via video/DVD I hope it would be the festivals. The fora (I hope my Latin is correct!) are a good w...

Re: MiniDV tapes

Can I just add that cassettes are supposed to be rewound back and forth occasionally (?yearly). Two of my master Hi8 tapes at least have stuck at the start causing flashes over the picture. One was put in a new cassette and was no better so I suspect the spindle gets dry. If I'm right this does limi...

Tandberg 74B

Anyone know if I can get the rubber ring for the pinch roller of this model?
There is a firm RDE Tandberg on the web but only a postal address (Full Sutton, YORK) no phone number.

Re: MiniDV tapes

Never had this problem with that celluloid stuff with holes punched down the edges. Funny you should say that, Michael. I've been copying to video/DVD a film we made in 1982. Super 8 Kodak striped. It was given to the charity for whom it was made and they projected it with a new projector many, man...

Re: Judges critiques - a criticism!

Jan wrote - Another idea I've been mulling over is to put crits or extracts from crits on the IAC website alongside the film links, so the audience can watch the film and read a considered evaluation. (Not the 20-word flimflam that we've heard about, but something enlightening and useful.) I'm just ...
