I was simply reminding you that remuneration rarely bears any relation to work/effort/importance in an attempt to prevent you becoming too irked by what wedding photograhers get paid :D

Tom, when you find yourself feeling irksome about it, and you need a little help to feel philosophical, just give athought to what nurses get paid.

Re: BBC's a History of Ancient Britain

I'm pleased to say the OTT shallow DoF shots seems to have had its day with the films posted by the "better" makers on the net. Hopefully the BBC will follow suit. Sadly the overuse and inappropriate use of wobbly shots is still rife - and I don't see that going away as its been around for...

Re: Using a HD camcorder makes you a better videographer

I presume the primary reason would be that HD is much less forgiving and more of the image is visible. Therefore focusing has to be more accurate; as more background is potentially clearer it's more important to consider depth of field; as more detail is visible in the image, greater attention to co...

Re: What should IAC be thinking about?

I hope you're all not seriously suggesting that IAC members lash out over £100 each in order to buy a machine in order to read their favourite (?) magazine - a machine that is inferior to the printed page in quality, size, and ability to reproduce colour images. No I'm not Mike. I'm seriously sugge...

Re: What should IAC be thinking about?

Nice idea, Tim ... but photos would be a problem on Kindle. Let's examine this... Firstly, Kindle will happily display 16 shade greyscale images. OK this will not work for showing articles where detailed colour is necessary, but how many articles really need this? (also see my second point). In the...

Re: What should IAC be thinking about?

I know what you mean, I don't see the point of [a Kindle] either, I'm surprised. I see the Kindle (or eBooks in general) as the natural successor to the magazine. It has most of the advantages of printed material (it is easily portable, is easy on the eye, is easy to bookmark and make notes on) wit...

Re: Blu-Ray Rather Than DVD

But what's the advantage of this Roy - that you can use a 20p disc rather than an 80p one? I'm not sure whether or not this is Roy's reason, Tom, but it's not necessarily the cost of producing the successful disc, there's also the cost of the (often numerous) "trial runs" where one wants ...

Re: Cleaning up an audio sound track using audition 1.5

I concur entirely with Mike's advice about going for the "bad" reader reviews, but even that doesn't tell the whole story. Especially with technical material, one man's chalk is another's cheese - two different authors can explain the same thing in two entirely different ways and different...

Re: Fluctuating exposure

Peter, I'm sure I'm not going to persuade you to change but I'd just like to respond to: 'look, the top of his head's off the top of the frame and still there's empty space at the side doing nothing' I'd suggest that in a properly thought out shot, the space one side or the other of the interviewee/...

Re: Club Showreel Required for Sept 9th

Thanks Peter, that would make an iinteresting selection. I'm pleased to say that in the meantime Frome have come up wit the goods for Sept 9th, so my immediate problem has been solved. Thanks to all for your offers. Moving this to a more general area, I'm rather surprised so few people responded. I ...

Re: overscan - thank goodness it's behind us

Fair comment, Tom. Do you happen to know if the AV out suffers the same problem? I'm asking as we are planning on shooting a drama on an FX1 and will be reviewing footage on location with an external monitor. (Of course I accept that this might differ between the two models but I think it's unlikely).

Re: overscan - thank goodness it's behind us

Funnily enough I was acting as third cameraman, doing wide angle/safety shots last week using a Z1 supplied by the producer/director. The camera had a x2 converter which vignetted badly towards the wide end of the scale. The director drummed into me that it was essential, whenever I turned the camer...
