Re: Getting our Films Seen.

As a matter of interest, Peter, what prompted your question about how many people watched Michael's film to the end?

Do people, perhaps, tend not to watch your own films to the end?

It was good to read your gracious reply, Michael.

Re: H2 ZOOM DIGITAL RECORDER

Thanks for that, Tom.

I'll read this in depth later today.

But do the tea leaves in the caddy spoil the recordings in any way?

Re: H2 ZOOM DIGITAL RECORDER

I mean are these audio-only recorders which use MiniDV cassetes?

Re: H2 ZOOM DIGITAL RECORDER

Tom, you mention your "three MinDisc recorders".

I've been thinking lately about buying an audio recorder for use with video projects.

What reasonably-priced model do you recommend?

And when you say MiniDisc, are these the DVC type used for camcorders?

Re: Film Festival Time Limits

Congratulations, Michael, on your wonderful documentary about those cute alpacas which was screened on Sky's Horse & Country channel last night. Beautifully filmed and superbly edited, with an irresistible thread of humour weaving its way through the well-scripted storyline. An inspiration. Ian ...

Re: MIN DV TAPE / STOREAGE

Oohhh! Sounds painful, Michael. Is there a treatment for it? Glucosamine Sulphate might do the trick.

(Off to Prague in the wee small hours of the morning with Mrs Woodward for eight days; I'll be doing the last shots on a film project while I'm there.)

Re: MIN DV TAPE / STOREAGE

The gold disc option also sounds a good idea if you are going to give a treasured home-produced DVD to, say, dear Aunt Hilda, who isn’t really going to exercise her mind all that much with portable hard drives but who you’d like to be able to watch the family film you’ve given her in 15 years from n...

Re: MIN DV TAPE / STOREAGE

The idea is that I'll have a DVD that lasts a bit longer than the seven-years-or-so life of a standard silver DVD.

Nothing more brain-storming or complicated than that.

Re: MIN DV TAPE / STOREAGE

Many thanks for the research, Lee. What a pity that DL archival gold discs for those who want best quality on projects lasting, say, 80 minutes, are not available. One would have thought that as the technology is there to produce these "100 years longevity" discs in single layer, it must b...

Re: DVD burners

My son, Phil, is busy with one of his new companies, HipSnip (www.hipsnip.com), and very little free time to spare at the moment, hence the reason I need someone to come to my home to help out with the burning. I have a few other issues I need sorting out as well.

Re: DVD burners

If I’m having problems with my computer, I call for my friendly IT man. If I hear a “funny noise” coming from my car’s engine, I get a mechanic to fix it. If I burn a video project to DVD and the burned quality is abysmal, I call in…er, I’m not sure! On 7 August I started a forum under the subject h...

Re: DVD burners

Leif, Col, Dave and Tom, you’ve all been so generous with your time, patience and knowledge that I can’t thank you enough. Dave, you’ve made incredibly clear so much that had puzzled me; I had absolutely no idea what MPEG2, etc, meant. A big, big thanks. Tom, my son, who’s rather cleverer at these t...

Re: DVD burners

Thanks, Tom. Your last paragraph: “So what encoder are you using to compress your timeline to MPEG2 Ian? Is it doing a multi-pass encode or a real-time zip through? Are you selecting a VBR or a CBR when you encode? This is where big changes can be effected. I use a Canopus encoder with which I'm wel...

Re: DVD burners

Many thanks, Leif, for your full and helpful reply. I'll be honest, I'd never heard of the DVD brand Taiyo Yuden prior to hearing from you! I've always sworn by Verbatim, both 4.7GM and 8.5GB DL, and until now I've had no good reason to doubt my choice. My quality problem could well be due to a burn...

Re: DVD burners

Tom, I forgot to ask - what brand/type of burner do you recommend in terms of getting professional quality: that is, the sort professionals might use?
