I think the BBC have had to go with the flow- they do have real competition these days, and the need to be there when breaking news stories are happening means to me that if they don't get a any kind of bulletin out, then their competitors will. So they've axed in many cases quality of sound to at l...

Re: Post Subject

Clubs don`t sell the IAC to it`s members. That`s what a club sec should do. Sell things that will help and encourage filmmaking to be done legal and proper. Not to sit on her **** and do nothing  :( :( !! You've been at the meths again Stingman. Newcastle ACA would not be over pleased to see t...

Has your film group got a website? I'm trying to work out what kind of group you are. You said you don't enter competitions (is that right?) so do you distribute your films etc?

A little blog would be useful if you would be so kind. (I'm new)

Re: Post subject

This whole thread I thought was to ascertain what the man in the street made of these New methods, and not particularly what Film makers thought of it. I only entered the fray because it was stated that audiances had accepted the new Look. And I still say that only a small proportion of the middle ...

Re: New V. Traditional

I strayed a bit but my point was that the 'new' can of course be seen alongside the older styles, a film is a film is a film. Artistsic expression takes many forms but the modern videos still have to be watchable and comprehensable which many are (but not most as I have witnessed to my cost). We mu...

Upon playing with our gear at the club the other week we set up projecting a colour bar from black and white - to colur- to try and get the contrast and depth of colour right. And the setting that looked best had the contrast turned up near full. Then we played a selction of movie samples to test th...

The best films I've made have been for competitions, they get me to get on with it - or I've got to bow my head in shame with a no-show.

Some of our members probably like it that way mind....

I think the pictures were filmed from 2 cameras, like binoculars. So you would two cameras place side by side to start with. Then you would need to put them on the timeline so both could be seen, but one seen obscured with a coloured filter. So you would need to filter both pictures and overlay them...

I'm under 50 and hate wobbly cams. I also hate movies where there is never a held tripod shot, meaning the cam is always tracked across from left to right etc. After a few minutes of that continuous technique, my interest has left the room. Re judging, it's like refereeing - without somebody to blam...

How does the fact that "technical discussions in club meetings turns me off" got to do with my suggestions for better sound? Nope, you didn't say that. You said this I'm not interested in having my own filming or editing equipment any more. The technology aspect now really turns me off. (...

We're talking about 'the club within a club' here. Roughly half of our members are long term members, but film watchers rather than makers. If we set aside lots of practical nights, attendances would fall. But another issue with doing practical nights is getting people to do them. Some are happy to ...

I would suggest a professional sound program, which in fact does not cost that much (about £350 or maybe less now). It's 24 bits and very good. (It's called ProTools, and is video compatible. There are probably other contenders at about that price as well). But of course, for serious sound editing,...

Peter- I can tell you that the member numbers in my club- Newcastle ACA - is increasing. That's fact. I do publicity and pay attention to the member numbers. You sound like you want to get something out of our pastime, but for whatever reason, aren't really happy with how you can join in. Dave was m...

Re: Do film making clubs have a future?

Peter Thomlinson wrote:I think the sad answer to this is simply "no."
I think your speaking for yourself Peter. As long as people want to make or watch films, our clubs have futures.
