I cannot condone this statement about game copying. I think you need special softwere for this. My Amiga games had extra tracks on the floppy discs but the standard software would not copy them. For the Amiga, and that computer was great for titleing with Scala, you needed an app called X-Copy, and...

Well, it's probably the first time I've seen it, and for the filming tips alone I'm quite impressed. I put the free disk into my laptop to what its got on it - in case it really is next to worthless. But not so. There are a number of moving animated backgrounds that I'll chuck straight onto my video...

Who suggested that copies of DVD's are degraded? Not so, they are identical and I use Titanium Toast for copies. I was also referring to hooking up a DVD player to a DVD recorder usually via s.video, but certainly copies made outside of computers. If Toast will copy DVD's identically, then I wonder...

This year was first time I put any films into Biaff. I put 4 films in - 2 into the main comp and 2 into the one-minute comp. They were films that I'm pretty happy with, so I'm wondering how they'll compare with some pretty good movies. And for the last few years me and my son I've also gone to the j...

Re: Film competitions - Mini DV or DVD?

Here's a question for the competition teams out there - would the organisers rather have the filmmakers enter their masterpieces as DVDs or tape? Sorry Tom, I missed your original question  If your movie is sent on a DVD, and for any reason copied onto another DVD before being shown- ie analo...

no one has published a `PERFECT` combination of settings on this Here's my settings, and up to now I get at least a 99% play rate on modern (ie not first generation) players. 1) Bit rate I use is 7000 Megabits per second to convert AVIs to MPEG2s. The higher the bitrate, the more picky some players...

I use Premiere 6.5 with a Canopus Storm edit card. It works fine for me, and the Storm stops the need for much rendering at all. I've looked a Premiere Pro, but I like the twin line timeline of v6.5. I also can't be bothered to learn another edit program, so I'll stick with the one I know. For DVD c...

A judge's comments haven't seriously changed the way I make my films, but an accumulation of them have made a difference over time. You might say they have added to my knowledge, and have given me an isight into what they want. Competent club films often win a club contest when compared with another...

Lighting what the camera sees in darkish rooms is a tall order even for professional kit. My XM-1 was much better than most other consumer cams I've seen. The XM-2 is even better in low light than its older brother. The choice I made to replace my old cam was Sony's VX2100, and I got this for its ha...

Practical Digital Video- opinions?

Hello people. 1st time poster on our new-look forum. I'm all nervous... I noticed the above magazine at a local magazine boutique- WHSmith actually. It looks useful to us film-makers, offering some tips on camera-technique etc. The camcorder magazines seem to have come and gone, so this seems...
