Re: Green film making
I live on an estate of former AEA housing from the late 50s and early 60s. The houses here have front to back living rooms which as standard are fitted with two light fittings on the ceiling. Nearby is a house, the sort with curtains open wide at all hours (that's okay if you live one floor up) wher...

I understand the original light with the first fillament that worked way back in Victorian times is still working! I want that one.
LED's are the next step.

Re: Green film making
Yes, ...along with the big bang! Outside of film making I'm researching ancient civilisation in the Caithness, this includes a meteor strike and ancient cultures between 15.000BC to 400AD. Most of the facts are nothing short of a guess, most guesses are completely wrong- and just the profess...

There's still a lot of if's and but's about global warming and like many things scientific, it is mostly conjecture. However it is clear that change is happening and we need to be aware that as a species our "advances" in the last 200 years have marked a whole new pattern within earth'e cl...

Re: Good quality machines, bad quality films
I remember seeing a postcard some years ago with a couple on a beach. The wife was looking at her man with a "what on earth are you doing" kind of look as she sat in her deck chair. He is entangled in his and is saying, "I like it this way!" Which perhaps sums up what some people...

Re: Good quality machines, bad quality films
Hot topic for sure and I fully agree that folk give too much attention to having the latest flashy gadget and not enough on making a good film. Many of the greatest films were made with less than technically perfect equipment. It's not what you've got but what you do with it as the Mother Superior w...

Last night I had a look at a couple of my films on youtube and found myself guilty as charged me-lud! On the Wick Gala Week film the title is frame high on a bright background but I think we get away with it because it's a gala parade with big colors on bright backgrounds. On the Relay For Life film...

Perhaps we need to remember that the nature of what we do governs the content of the magazine and therin lies a tragic impass. The magazine is produced in every way by professional hands yet it's content by default is non-professional. The very nature of this means that we the contributors do hold a...

Golly, I've never seen a more accurate discription of an American Tourist! :D They are a strange bunch, polite, friendly but strange the way they do all those things while we go about our business in the latest fashions. The only place they blend in is Edinburgh's Royal Mile where there are plenty o...

At Film-Thurso we don't mask down the frame. We are using anamorphic lenses and the full 4:3 or 16:9 frame. For youtube we flatten the frame to fit. For dvd on 16:9 tv's we flatten the frame less so it is still partly anamorphic and the tv will simply take the picture to the correct ratio with any k...

The other location dates are not set and will b...
