You're too kind, Dave. But your words of encouragement are much appreciated.

Yes  I know, I know, you're wondering what that says about the standard of editing of the other films

Re: Basic Film construction etc

And I also meant to say that I've only managed a couple of 3 stars at BIAFF so I'm hardly an authority on the subject and please wait forothers to join in before putting in any effort!

Re: Basic Film construction etc

I'm glad you have take my comments in the spirit in which they were intended - that of constructive criticism and indeed speculation as to why you fellow club members weren't too keen. When I re-read what I had posted I was concerned I'd come over as rather harsh. It is important you bear in mind my...

Re: Basic Film construction etc

Hi again John, From your description it is unclear whether the category was "A Holiday Fim" as distinct from a Travelogue. In my mind a travelogue is primarily concerned with describing a place or a journey and people and events related to that, whereas a holiday film is much more concerne...

Re: Music & You Tube

Col, Mike Sorry, I should have made that clearer. I do have the individual licences as well as being a member of the IAC. My response wasn't to the original question as to whether Club licences cover movies made by individual members (I had help and clarification a couple of years ago from Gerald Me...

Re: Music & You Tube

In practice the IAC Licences have little to do with YouTube films. Dave, I thought there was an announcement that they now covered YouTube (and only YouTube - not Vimeo, Metacafe or others). In fact it was this announcement which tipped the balance in favour of me joining the IAC after several year...

Staines Members on the Box

I guess this is as good a place to post as any but it seems Staines Video Makers are progressing onto terrestrial TV. Tonight (Wednesday 23rd November) BBC London News at 6.30 (that's about an hour away). One of our members has been informed that his footage of events surrounding a local house which...

Re: How can we make "different" films of the holidays?

Thanks for your comments Mike and Dave. Glad you enjoyed. I admire the way that you all actually sang rather than just miming to Slade Born out of necessity. My sister's idea was to copy what someone else she knew had done - basically lip-sync to Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas". B...

Re: How can we make "different" films of the holidays?

Well, fed up with me sticking my camera under the noses of everyone pretending to be happy as they opened their pair of socks, last year one of my sisters came up with an idea which I expanded upon and we (all my extended family) came up with this: [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skpgyUqYjtg...

Re: Research Query

No, the negative imact on the clubs was caused by the internet. You could belong to 10s of clubs without leaving home. This is very true Tom and applies to clubs of just about every type where a physical prsesence is not required. People have access to a far broader range and depth of knowledge tha...

Re: SoCo Regional Awards Show

I don't know whether this is interesting or not, but I had to watch a few clips of Mrs Brown's Boys on YouTube to convince myself she had sworn on it (she had). It had gone right over my head when I watched the series - I'd assumed she'd used that good old Irish standby "fecking". It rathe...

Re: SoCo Regional Awards Show

Assuming SoCo judges send out judges comments/critiques to entries in general (and that is one of the main reasons we submit films to festivals, isn't it?) then I think fraught is right to feel peeved that he recieved barely a comment. I agree (and doubt anyone here would disagree) that judges shoul...
