Thanks, Tom, will look into this. Sorry for the delay in acknowledging your reply - I thought I'd ticked to be informed of any reply but either I didn't or it didn't work.

Re: Club Showreel Required for Sept 9th
We don't have enough films of general interest to make up an annual show but we do about 10 - 12 shows a year to mostly elderly people who have little interest in whether the films are new or not and they only want 45 minutes quite often but anyway we tend to try to meet their preferences so a show ...

Re: Club Showreel Required for Sept 9th
If still stuck Pendle has some used for public show in celebration of our fiftieth, roughly according to the decades.

FVM & NW Film Archive
The phone number given on page 24 for the Archive is wrong. It should be 0161 247 3097
For what it;s worth my experience of the Archive has not been quite as god as John's.

Fluctuating exposure
My PD 170 still seems to show slight fluctuations in exposure levels, eg when a white balloon blows into shot, even when on fixed (manual) setting. Do all camcorders do this? Is there a way of stopping this?

As you can probably tell I didn't know what you were talking about, Tom. Now I do and see your point. Thanks.

Does anyone know if these work as well as adverts in, for example, Radio Times, suggest?

Re: How might BIAFF entries be judged?
P.S. without the brutal, unloving meaningful physical relationship that was implied.
I don't know where the word meaningful came from in my post of 23rd. It doesn't make sense to me. Presumably a 'senior moment'. Sorry!

Re: How might BIAFF entries be judged?
Many thanks to both Dave and Phil. Dave for putting me on to the 'making of' site which I had looked for but missed which explains things that I and others had not understood. Your definition of 'General' makes sense to me, Dave, but to my mind I would be 'general' in this instance which seems to me...

Re: How might BIAFF entries be judged?
Dave wrote - can you assess a film in terms of how a general audience sees and hears it? I wonder if Dave has time/inclination to discuss what he means by this "general audience"? I live a quiet life in the provinces and have a limited circle of friends but when I was working I mixed with...

Re: How might BIAFF entries be judged?
I would like to add my support for the Lily or Cotswold method to be adopted by BIAFF and other IAC competitions. What I particularly liked about the Cotswold was that we knew what weight was given to different aspects, so that, for instance, my particular niggle - whether a film is suitable for a c...

Re: 8MM CINE FILM COPYING TO VIDEO
Or you could get hold of a second hand Sony DSR 300 and use its clearscan setting to eliminate the fluctuations and run the projector at its normal speed which is what I have been saying for years. I am sure Tom does it better his way but when I slow the projector down then speed up the film on the ...

Re: FVM - Licensed premises
Well, I'm blowed! Firstly by the extent of Dave's knowledge, again, and by the law itself, though on one reading (of the Wikipaedia article) I remain sure that the holding of council meetings element means where alcohol is served (I wonder whether that requirement has been updated since the new lice...

In Chairman's Chat, Ron Prosser makes a point about the law regarding giving public film shows which might have been the original for the expression ..'the law's an ass', but I have no doubt that he's right, although I'm surprised that a U3A group is 'public' in that sense - don't the participants h...
