Re: BIAFF Results 2022

Going to Birmingman, a city with about 1 million inhabitants. It is not so easy to get there, I fear. Maybe I am wrong. To be honest I prefer places like Harrogate, Buxton etc... They're not far from areas of outstanding beauty. Willy, Birmingham is a LOVELY place! Sorry you will miss it! (I live i...

Re: UK FILM REVIEWS

Willy, I find your description of trying to delegate the camera work very moving. I wonder whether there is any way that it could have worked for you? Or whether under any circumstances you'd have felt as if your creativity had been taken away from you? If you asked a quiet, helpful person to operat...

Re: Paul Vernon

Sorry to hear this sad news. Paul's passion for filmmaking was a joy. He was a lovely man. I'll miss seeing him at film related events.

Re: THE BIAFF WEEKEND

I'm not sure that IMDB estimates should be relied on 100%.
I just looked up a film made by someone who was briefly a member of Sutton Coldfield Movie Makers. It has an estimated budged of $25,000,000.

Re: THE BIAFF WEEKEND

One of the films submitted had a voiceover in a foreign language - German, I think - but NO SUBTITLES. I do wonder how it was judged? I think it got at least 4 stars.

Re: About Death (Sobre la Muerte)

I’d like to make a suggestion which would go some way towards weeding out films which are not bona fide amateur productions. From next year there could be a declaration to sign on the BIAFF entry form, along these lines: “I confirm that this is a non-profit-making amateur film for which no payment ...

Re: BIAFF 2021 RESULTS

I have at last received all my results and comments. There were six films that I had some involvement in. Two were just mine: Time for Tea - Two Stars Swiss Goat Festival – Two Stars Two in the names of Debbie Daniels and myself: Away the Wind - Three Stars Death for Paradise – Three Stars One in th...

How do you learn to make better films?

I’ve just written to ten experienced filmmakers to ask them whether they EVER find judges’ comments useful in the sense that they learn from the judges' comments how to make better films? I’ve had 9 replies though one said he wouldn’t say until he’d seen this year’s BIAFF results. Most say they do s...

Yes, Martin. I expect emails take a long time to get there.
One of our members wrote to David Newman and he said he is running a bit late but she'd get her results later today...

Re: VideoPad

Roy, I suggested she try Davinci Resolve. She looked into it and found that it requires a minimum of 16gb ram - preferably 32. She hasn't got that much. Don't know how much she's got. So I've encouraged her to try HitFilm. Ned, that sounds really good! I wish the IAC would organise similar things now.

Re: VideoPad

Thanks very much Roy and Ned. I shall persevere a bit with VideoPad just to satisfy my own curiosity about what happens after a few weeks! I find it extraordinary that NCH are so unclear about what it is they're offering. Ned, if there are only two audio tracks, I think it's a non-starter. I think o...

Re: VideoPad

Interesting,Roy. Can you have a look and see what version of VideoPad you have? If I go to the teeny arrow top right of the screen, a menu appears. If I scroll down to the last item, it says 'About VideoPad'. If I click on that I get a little box which gives me the details of the version I have. At ...
