Re: Amazing sound!
Certainly looks like a Zoom H4n to me. I agree with you thet the mics are doing a particularly good job. It almost sounds too dead - unnatural for the camera position. To my mind a bit or room noise & reverb could be added to the sound. It is also clear how directional those mics pickup patterns...

Re: How can we best present info about the IAC video library
Tim - it is there but a bit obscure. http://www.theiac.org.uk/iac/video_library/makers_index_a-f.htm does the trick. Ahh. My mistake. I was searching for BIAFF awards for a particular film maker, rather than films in the library. Stupid of me to mix the two up. However, when you've nothing better t...

Re: How can we best present info about the IAC video library
On a related topic, I wanted to look up films on the IAC website by a particular maker yesterday. I'm sure there used to be a "search by maker" function. Either it's no longer there or it difficult (for me) to find.

Re: Award Presentations
Jill, you make a very good point about putting a face to a name. Perhaps newsletters/magazines/websites would do better to print mug shots where we can actually make out the face rather than wide shots of people shaking hands with various presidents/chairmen etc (whose mug shots are no doubt seen el...

Re: Award Presentations
Again I find myself at one with Mike. When I read Dave's initial post my thought was "nooooooooo!" It's bad enough for the audience sitting through endless handshakes and photos without adding to that endless speeches by people who don't know how to speak in public, so wonderfully lampoone...

Re: If not amateur, then what?
Why the need for labels? I'm neither a professional or an amateur. I'm just a film-maker, like everyone else in my peergroup. Isn't that what i just described myself as? :) I agree labels aren't essential and I certainly would not want people to be pigeon-holed by labels (I see a distinction betwee...

I note the domain was regisstered in 1999. The NEC is not rushing to change the formal name then!Dave Watterson wrote:Try typing into your browser http://www.fvi.org.uk/ ...

Re: If not amateur, then what?
Actually I think I told you to be a bit less modest! The Film & Video Institute is not a bad name. Why don't we just change the "official" name to what we've been calling it for years. And FVI could be put into the same diamond shaped logo. And I could simply be a "film and video ...

Re: If not amateur, then what?
Oh dear. My "hopefully more lighthearted" thread is search for a word that describes what I am, as I'm not an amateur, seems to have gone off in a couple of tangents and become anything but lighthearted. Dave, I hoped my introductory post made it clear that I had accepted I will never win ...

If not amateur, then what?
In a hopefully more lighthearted vein ... Having, very grudglngly, accepted that the word "amateur" has connotations of poor standards among some people, I'd just like to state my dislike of the term "non-commercial". It's perfect for describing how one may use material (free for...

Re: Attracting New Members
Ian and Willy, first, thanks for the explanation of what UNICA represents. I'm glad that you both see the IAC (or whatever it becomes) as remaining British/British focussed. That would be my preference, but until now I've been a lone voice in this thread. I dread the time we come to change the name ...

Re: Attracting New Members
Tim - we have people from abroad as members now, and we have many entries into our competitions from abroad - I see no problem therefore with using the word International as part of the IAC mnemonic (instead of Institute) and inviting people from overseas to join in. I did state that I had no probl...

Re: Attracting New Members
I'm not so sure about the "International" suggestion. I think it sounds rather big and fear that may put some people off joining. An English, British or UK organisation is a little bit more "local" and this in itself has some attraction (in the same way that being "internati...
