Another useful website is www.steadycam-pro.com which is NOT about the incredibly-expensive-professional device but a much cheaper device you can make yourself. You can also find on YouTube a whole set of movies about home-made camera dollies. With most such devices you also need to apply some smoot...

I have had films much applauded by the audiance. only to be condemned by a judge as being to long. Result, No more competition entries from this film maker. NEVER let a judge's remarks do that to you! I speak as a frequent judge at all sorts of competitions. Judges only give you their view. If the ...

I am pretty sure you are right, Michael. Your AV maker wants to know the video image dimensions (720x576) in PAL if the material is in the usual 4x3 Academy ratio. Many AV workers use 1440x1080 which gives a high-resolution image but unless you plan to use the DVD on hi-def systems that is no use to...

TIME PASSING
Maybe it is the change of year ... but I found myself this morning wondering how we can communicate to others the sense of time passing. I have two particular scenarios in mind: 1) In a club you want to demonstrate or have a workshop on some issue like script development, analysing footage before ed...

Think twice
Hi Richard Welcome to the forum. I cannot answer the specific points you raise - but can offer a two words on upgrading: think twice. Yes, you can breathe new life into a computer with extra memory etc but ... a) hard discs die - with an average life of a bit over 5 years. b) electronic chips deteri...

Family Chronicles
In parts of Europe there is a recognised category of films known as "family chronicles". These are the sort of films Pathe, Kodak et al had in mind when they developed the home cinema market ... moving picture records of family occasions: holidays, weddings, parties and get-togethers. I'll...

Canon XM2 problem - any ideas?
Someone tried to post this message but had not registered for the forum, so their message appeared in the "failed applications" list along with all the spam. I could not find their name, but since it sounds like a genuine question - and they can read the threads without being registered - ...

The obvious choice is the Widescreen Centre. They offer the service but it should be more widely available because Super-8mm is still in use. Many students like it. http://www.widescreen-centre.co.uk/Catalogue/Motion_picture_division.html You and Linda go to so many festivals this could have happene...
