Re: AGM 2022 - what should we aim for?

Is there a recording of the AGM Zoom meeting available? I would like to have attended but it was at 4:45 am my time!

Re: FVM October 2022 issue

December issue.
Well done; good use of photos. Clean; easy to read; hope the Letters to the Editor continue so strongly. Thanks for my improved heading pic! Perhaps make the backgrounds a bit fainter for old eyes.

Great job,
Thanks

Re: Filming with an iphone

Lot's of information on YouTube about how phones work as cameras along with advantages and disadvantages. Several feature length films have been shot on iPhones including Tangerine; probably the best known. Local film maker Sean Labreque uses his iPhone for everything and his work has been screened ...

Re: FVM October 2022 issue

My issue has arrived having made the 5,000 mile trip with the bottom of the envelope completely open, I just pulled the magazine out of the opening. First impression; different, an energetic style; everything easy to read, well done, the usual contributors, pass on Lord Spoon. Yet again the AV folk ...

Re: Archiving AMPS

The archive is open to anyone by appointment; the AMPS collection is not on-line so it requires a personal visit. I believe you can get a catalog by request.

Archiving AMPS

When AMPS (American Motion Picture Society) closed its doors we were left with a substantial archive of films, DVDs, documents and photographs spanning ,many years. The temptation was to put it in the trash, through an academic interested in amateur film (Prof Neumann North Arizona University) he ad...

judge's comments

I have no entries in BIAFF this year and have read the extensive posts on the two main threads. The comments on my two entries last year were fair and surprisingly one film garnered 4 stars; more than I expected. The BIAFF judges are very gentle in my experience; some years ago I entered a film &quo...

Re: UNICA

The problem faced by clubs is not their amateur status but the aged membership; young film makers do not want to spend time with people the age of their grandparents who have a very different take on film anyway. Regarding your comments on film school grads; I have a granddaughter who has a degree i...

Re: UNICA

The gap between professionals and amateurs is more imaginary than real; here we have DOCUTAH open to "film makers" the only separation is a for students. I know that a number of non-professional (amateur if you prefer) films have been screened here including entries by contributors to this...

Re: BIAFF 2022

Although most infected people recover there are a number who develop infections that require maximum health care support; at this moment the ICU in our local hospital is 93% full with predominantly CoVid patients. This has been a roller coaster here as the numbers rise and fall; usually associated w...

Re: BIAFF 2022

We had originally planned our visit to Europe for the first time in two years to coincide with BIAFF but have cancelled in the light of the increasing shut down as Omicron spreads and a fear we may not be able to get back. It's a new world.

Re: The shorcomings of a film

My apologies for the delayed response to this interesting thread; events here have required a lot of my time. Thanks for the positive and helpful comments. I started the thread as a means of discussing style rather than content; the traditional, three point lighting; subject talks to camera or sligh...

Re: The shorcomings of a film

Hi Jameela thanks for your comments; what is interesting is that they are typical "judges evaluations" that address perceived technical "faults" in both clips and offer technical solutions; the implication being that these were unintended. In the case of the formal style clip the...
