There really is something special about a ship sailing at night.

What news of your Festival? I believe that you had at least 3 entries from the USA. (About the same as BIAFF!!)

I feel that the need to give every film entered in a competition some form of award is unnecessary. First, Second and Third overall and by genre, specialist awards for sound, editing, photography, whatever. There was great deal to be said for the old "Ten Best" approach. Judges comments, y...

I live at 5000 feet and was told that plasma screens are not rceommended and a local community at 9000 feet have been told not to use plasma screens at all. Apparently something to do with the internal/external pressure difference. We still use a projection TV (beamer!!) but having seen a friend's 5...

I remember attending a meeting in France with representatives from three Europesan countries all of whom spoke English. A Scottish colleague said the result of a course of action would be "a fine kettle of fish". You can imagine the result wityh the explanation taking up the rest of the me...

First, the Belgian film maker should have his award withdrawn because his film is obviously not a "non-commercial" production. In fact the absolute opposite. If he refuses then I would make a point of publicising that the award was in an AMATEUR Festival (ie "home movies", that s...

Nice one! I envy you the joy of putting together a film using this material along with present day shots. Interviews with old salts, passenger's memories, fair weather and storm; Orkney and Thurso, hope we get to see the end result in some Festivals,

Thanks

There isn't an open category in AMPS, Willy, there are two categories, Student, which applies to films made by students and General, which applies to all other films regardless of who made them. The main point of the AMPS Festival is that the films must not be made for financial gain. We do have one...

In the old days when the amateur was very clearly separated from the professional, Ian, you would now be a professional and no longer eligible to enter any amateur film making activities. This was very strongly enforced in the days when international athletics was an amateur activity and only theore...

Color before & after!

http://prolost.blogspot.com/2007/07/col ... movie.html

This gives an interesting insight to how high budget films may look before the colorists have got to work. We can take heart from this that we don't do too badly and the pros are often saved in post production.

I think the potential for better productions is in position with the simplification of the production/post-production process. It is interesting reading Michael's action list because we can now do all of this in the comfort of our computer room. The eternal problem is that of creativity, professiona...

AMPS Festival

I live in a small community in a high valley (5,000 feet) with a 10,500 foot mountain range to the east of us (about 10 miles away) and a hill up to about 7,000 feet to the West. This is the pinion/juniper zone and our problem is the summer fires usually started by "dry" lightning. We have...
