Re: Val Ellis

She was a fantastic lady. I loved her speeches at the BIAFF gala dinners when she was president of the IAC. I loved her sense of humour. She was so friendly! She was always very positive! Ken Wilson and I received the diploma of "Master Movie Maker Fellowship" from her at Royal Tunbridge W...

Re: THE BIAFF FESTIVAL 2017

Maybe I am as stubborn as a Guersney donkey. http://dialog.theiac.org.uk/dialog/posting.php?mode=reply&f=8&t=3731# I don't agree with some of you about that "curve". I am sure I am not the only one. We are only 6 or 7 in this discussion or "debate". From time to time I le...

Re: THE BIAFF FESTIVAL 2017

Your nex website, Michael Who would not be interested in your new website, Michael? It's fantastic what you have done. All your movies are in categories: people, places, art, action and animals. Of course I have already seen quite a lot of them: Glass Art, On Silk, Melissa, Hounds & the Huntsma...

Re: THE BIAFF FESTIVAL 2017

Many thanks for your reply, Tim. I've just come home from a holiday at the seaside. Yes, you are right that there would be some obstacles. I know that the best coaches are in the sands, but I think these hurdles can be taken. As you said it would take longer to get in all the results. But imagine th...

Re: THE BIAFF FESTIVAL 2017

Dave has explained again how BIAFF is organized. Many thanks, but... here we go again... Imagine that BIAFF would be organized as follows: New possible procedure: 1. 250 movies or more are sent to groups of 5 judges by Wetransfer or Dropbox. Each judge writes a report just like 15 years ago. One of ...

Re: THE BIAFF FESTIVAL 2017

We should know better than dig up old skeletons, but sometimes it is useful to do it. Do you remember the award winning film "Nothing Girl"? It was made by the Canadian filmmaker Pierre Daudelin. BIAFF 2006. We had heavy discussions about it for weeks and weeks. Nobody seemed to have enjoy...

Re: UNICA 2017 - World Movie Contest in Dortmund.

Ok, that's better. I have even read now that Zeche Zollern is only 3 kilometres or 2 miles from our IBIS Hotel Dortmund West. "Geschichte and Kulturerbe". So it takes only a few minutes to get there by car.

Re: UNICA 2017 - World Movie Contest in Dortmund.

Yes, Dave, the venue looks very impressive. The headquarters of a former coal mining company. We are in Dortmund West. It is the IBIS-hotel recommended by UNICA. Is it 156 minutes by car from the hotel to the venue? I hope that you have made a mistake. Of course you have. Maybe 15 or 16 minutes? Our...

Re: UNICA 2017 - World Movie Contest in Dortmund.

I was not at BIAFF for personal reasons, but I have booked three nights at the IBIS Hotel in Dortmund. I didn't pay more than 60 euros for a double room for one night. That's very cheap. About £53. Days Inn Hotel is even cheaper and it's also very comfortable. I know because in England there are man...

Re: THE BIAFF FESTIVAL 2017

Categories Very interesting, Ken. Editing must be judged by specialists in editing, directing by experienced directors, etc... That's what I understand. That's ideal, of course. However, I am not against non-filmmakers who love watching movies and who judge my movies, but I wonder if my own film at...

Re: THE BIAFF FESTIVAL 2017

There is a time of coming. There is a time of leaving. I feel that I must leave now after two BIAFF-decades. Because of health problems. That's the main reason, Michael. In 2013 I crept through the eye of a needle. Yes, we are getting old. However you could still call me a "youngster" in t...

Re: THE BIAFF FESTIVAL 2017

Yes, I understand Tim. You are younger than me. Our children already left the house about 20 years ago and I can enjoy the lively atmosphere in my daughter's family home with my three grandsons. Actually I meant watching a film at a judging session for a festival. That can be stressful sometimes bec...

Re: THE BIAFF FESTIVAL 2017

Many thanks for giving me the opportunity to watch your two films, Michael. "Flash Walk" and "Moon at Night". A movie about a narrow street in Hampstead (London) with its shops. The other film is about an old theatre pub, also in Hampstead, the place where you live I remember, Mi...
