Yay? YAY? Mike, you're old enough to be my father but using the language of my eight year old!

Proof, as if any was needed, that you're only as old as you feel - or speak.

Glad you get to go.

Re: My latest Movie short

It was a themed competition Tim. ... sometimes it is relaxing (like those weird dolphin sound tapes that run for nearly an hour!) to just have some pleasant pictures to watch against an equally pleasant music background. Understood on both counts. And as a competition, it can serve a purpose of foc...

Re: Attracting New Members

Just an aside on the Registered Charity thing - charities are very limited on what they can raise money for as I discovered recently. A local community choir set itself up as a charity to "further the involvement of music within the community" or words to such effect. They regularly hold v...

Re: An idea for folks to try out

So I guess about 11 hours altogether for that 1 min 37secs! Hehehe :D I bet that is not far off the normal film production rate for film. But it pays off. You're kidding me! I thought that generally estimates are one day per page of script for shooting only - and I suspect this is a page of script....

Re: An idea for folks to try out

Fantastic job, Alan, and a great idea.
Out of interest, how long did it take you to shoot (I accept planning is on top of this)?

Re: My latest Movie short

I nearly posted this yesterday, but wanted to wait for other posts as what I have to say is contentious and it is certainly not a dig at this particular film. My question is simply, why? Why is this a film? (as opposed to a book of photos) When I look at a landscape, I want to view it at my own pace...

Re: Attracting New Members

What Brian and Mike describe is very similar to the sort of organisational structure for many leisure activities. In fact, when I took up this hobby only a few years ago and joined Staines (how did they attract me as a member? An existing member and I happened to share a business client - so word of...

Re: CREATING nearly FROM SCRATCH

+1 for Remote Control. One of my all time favourites. It's also one of the simplest to achieve (I'm sure Mike won't mind me saying), confirming, as if we needed it, that it's the content that counts. Yet even the idea is simple. The genius (sorry if that makes you blush again, Mike) is coming up wit...

Re: Sound recorders

my camera's audio records in either Dolby digital or lanier PMC..(i think thats right) i have the choice between the two... I suspect it's linear PCM (Pulse Code Modulation). My limited understanding (from the options provided when creating video DVDs) is that Dolby is more compressed. This is grea...

Re: Sound recorders

John, I own an H2 (on Tom's recommendation) and can confirm it is excellent. However, I've also used an H4n and if the £100 prce difference is not a major issue it is well worth it for three reasons: (in no particular order) Build quality, better menu system, XLRs. If size is an issue (ie you want t...

Re: Attracting New Members

People who attend courses at universities and colleges are people who are looking to a career in media and are unlikely to be interested. I suspect they set their sights "higher" than what they perceive as mere pensioners who are hobbyists. Certainly any attempts we have made to liaise wit...

Re: Music Video is Finally Finished

in particular there is a US based forum I'm a member of and they get a lot of homemade Hip Hop and R'n'B videos posted there - by and large, nothing happens in those, they basically show off the artist doing their thing in front of a range of backdrops, but the narrative in usually non-existent, so...

Re: Music Video is Finally Finished

Hi Jim, Congratulations on finally finishing this (not a criticism, I'm still editing some footage I finished filming 18 months ago). If we ignore the quality of the camera (I know the limitations you were working under), I think there is plenty about this which is encouraging - a mixture of shots a...

Re: Attracting New Members

Mike, it seems you and I are in total accord. Perhaps I'll move to Orpington :D Keeping new people is the biggest challenge and therefore we need to address the problem of given potential members a reason to come bacl. I believe Reading's approach of a course spanning several weeks is an excellent a...
