Re: SONY HVR-Z5
I've got a Z5 and it's a great piece of kit in my book. It's too big to take on holiday, and a little too big to handhold all day. I have a media recorder attached to it and love that accessory also. On £1 tapes, I've seen very few image dropouts. I like it, but wish I had a little dinky cam that I ...

Re: Magix movie editor
For myself I must say, the experience is overall quite good. Since I upgraded my hardware to intel quad processor, I have only had minor problems. In my opinion Win 7 is often to blaim for problems like lockups . I think it is a shame, that Microsoft again again have released new opereting system b...

Re: Edit from Canon Legria HV 40
Make sure the camcorder is in play mode then use the capture tool to play the tape. You should see the footage playing on the camcorder and in the capture tool.
If thats happening click to record.
You may have to edit where the movie is captured to on the hard drive.

A Professional Piece that showed us something
I watched a movie, made in 2008, last week that was made by an old master. A guy who can act, direct and also write. The man has given plenty to cinema and the big screen all his life. By 2008, this old pro was 78 years old. Yet he put together a movie that puts your heart on a rollercoaster with pl...

Re: HD editing - Simple things to know?
When shooting everything now, I shoot and edit in HDV with Adobe CS4. Not sure how it would behave if I added some 1920x1080 AVCHD clips - it should allow them. After editing I export to an HDV file on an external hard drive and also to a tape, for archiving and showing at the club. AVCHD are put in...

Re: Magix movie editor
Vegas Studio 9 Platinum is a pretty decent app, and it costs about £90. It hasn't had an update for a year though and is a bit flakey with AVCHD.
Magix have offered me an upgrade to Movie Edit Pro 16 Plus for £49.99. I might buy it.

Re: FAREWELL TO A FRIEND
Hi Leif, Sorry to hear the story of your efforts turning into a massive amount of hard work. Maybe there can be a section this forum for people to link their movies to, and others could review their work. Having said that, I'd be a bit nervous about putting my movies online here for others to rip to...

Re: AVCHD camcorders
Thanks Col for your note. I look forward to seeing your piece later on. Can I ask you a question that won't wait? If I was wanting an AVCHD camcorder now, to take on holiday, have you got any insight into recommending a model. My friend has a cracking Sony HDD job - the HDR-XR520VE - with an image s...

Re: Silver discs
You could save each disk as an image on an external hard drive, then just keep it on the shelf, and also copy the DVD's in 2015 say. Re the weddings. I have only done a few weddings, but I don't tell the couple that they'll last forever. They could copy them in 5 years or so to make sure they last, ...

Re: Downloading Tapeless Files on Location
I went out today and filmed an old steam engine that was on exhibition, zoomed into the dark cabin, then locked the iris and zoomed out. I also left the iris in manual and used the iris ring a tad - worth it, as I probably lit up the shot a stop or two and especially lit up the engine. Pleased with ...

I've got disks I burned years ago that don't read now. IMO tapes are better for archiving.

Bell and Howell 16mm projectors
Anyone know of an outfit that repairs these projectors. I've been given one thats arms don't turn to pull the cine through. The few cines that came with it might show some historical shots, so I'd like it working. It's a 1692 model, and the light and motor do work. Maybe the innards just need lubric...

Re: Desirable upgrades for my P.C.
Hi Pete You haven't said what you want your rig to do. If it's for standard def editing then your sorted, unless you'd like a capture card that has a bunch of real-time effects so help you play with effects without the wait. I've built about 5 rigs for HD editing - my own rig is now running great, b...
