Re: Entering competitions..
Most film competitions and festivals on Film Freeway are not free to enter, and entry fees can be pretty expensive especially when approaching the final deadline. I’ve just entered a new film Distraction into NINE festivals and the only one that was free to enter was BIAFF. The entry fees for the ot...

Re: Entering competitions..
Roger, It’s definitely a good idea to send films to multiple festivals. Frequently you’ll find that while a film is poorly received at one festival it will be acclaimed at another. My film Conrad won a Diamond award at BIAFF 2021 yet it was the only one of 6 films that I sent to the Birmingham Film ...

Re: A really amazing coincidence.
Michael Slowe, you mentioned Woody Allen’s use of a particular font, white on black. The font is named ‘Windsor’ and he’s been using it for over 40 years, usually accompanied by old-fashioned music. I copied his style of credits meticulously for my comedy ‘Blue Lady’ and was disappointed that no-one...

Re: Perseverance works?
Well done Geoff. It’s a hugely powerful film with a bravura, terrifying performance from the leading actor Paul Anthony Kelly.
I hope Hosticide sells well. It deserves to.

Re: BIAFF 2022
In September 2021 I said this on the forum: “I hope that everyone else is as excited and enthusiastic about BIAFF 2022 as I am!” In the end my enthusiasm was muted because of what Tim alluded to in his latest email. I remember the weekend with a mixture of emotions. I loved David Brezina’s films. Ge...

Re: BIAFF 2022
Thank you so much Willy for your excellent review of The Morality of Lying. Your generous comments are much appreciated. I did originally ask the writer Gary Cattell if he would be prepared to shorten the script down to about half its length for the film but he, and the actors, asked for the complet...

Re: BIAFF 2022
Willy, I really enjoyed your Scrabble film which was extremely well made and most entertaining. Since you mentioned me in your last message, I’d like to check whether you are aware that I sent nine films into the festival and six of them got 4 stars. However, not one of them was shown at the BIAFF w...

Re: BIAFF 2022
Tom I cannot, and will never, agree that experiencing BIAFF on Zoom is as good or better as being there with an audience at the live event. I feel isolated watching films via YouTube at home at Zoom events whereas a live audience reacts, laughs, gasps, and provides a communal experience… also the oc...

Re: BIAFF Results 2022
Just like I did with ‘Sean’ and ‘Why Remember?”, John. But Bob’s films are a lot funnier than mine!

Re: BIAFF Results 2022
I’ve read through the lists of awards and there are many films listed that I’m really looking forward to at BIAFF. Congratulations once more to the winning filmmakers. I miss Bob Lorrimer’s films and wonder whether Bob still makes his quirky comedies? The last one I remember was his Diamond award wi...

Re: BIAFF Results 2022
It’s good to have more BIAFF films being shown online Tuesday to Thursday but in my opinion online screenings can never match the experience of seeing films with a live audience.

Re: BIAFF Results 2022
Huge congratulations on your 5 star award for your Scrabble film Willy! You also deserve a quadruple word score for the title The Fall of Icarus. Well done.

Re: BIAFF Results 2022
Hello Willy, it’s great to read your message! Actually Ken Wilson is about 6 weeks older than me. My 70th birthday will be on 15th May. Last year I got a Diamond award for Conrad and 5 stars for Sean. Perhaps I should have made more films with boys’ names in the title for this year! I had previously...
