Re: Attracting New Members

For both clubs and IAC generally there are actually three types of member: active film makers tech enthusiasts who enjoy kit, editing etc and supporters who enjoy the social contact, like most films and want to help by paying their subs and tickets. We tend to talk mainly about the first and someti...

Re: Attracting New Members

I'm not received my copy yet, Ivor, but I would certainly think that an obvious approach would be to find out how clubs who have been successful have been recruiting. Chris Coulson and Mike Shaw are both active members of Orpington - a club which has been very successful at recruitment so no doubt t...

Re: green screening

Not as effectve, John. There must be elements of the green shade that you removed reflected in the dog's coat as he is somewhat tranparent in places.

Re: green screening

I know the news and weather reports are shot in front of a green screen, and yes they do look perfect, Actually for months I've been getting annoyed that there is a visible cross (floor to ceiling line and mid point horizontal, presumably where four green panels meet) on the BBC weather (possibly j...

Board preferences
Time zone and Summer time/DST settings.

Re: merry christmas

And a Merry Christmas to you all! They say everyone has a novel inside them and I wonder if everyone has a film inside them and this was mine. I hope not as I hope to continue to try to make films for a long time yet! Just to comment on the comments - Dave I'm flattered to have the words "maste...

Re: green screening

That looks to me like a really good job, John. A nice really clean key and the subject well lit. There's the merest hint of a reflection of green on the left of your face (that's you'r left = screen right) but I doubt I'd notice if I wasn't loking for it. A zillion times better than I've achieved (a...

Re: Cotswold IFF

This is a fascinating thread - heated, yet civilised "argument". Without having seen the comments to which Lee refers, I cannot possibly comment on whether the judges are rude and disparaging or just rather blunt. In the few festivals I've entered, most judges comments have been helpful, o...

Great idea. But rather than be coy about it, why not post the conditions here rather than get people to email.

How much, if anything, are you paying?

Who owns the material (a) if you chose use it (b) if you choose not to use it?

Re: CS5 manual

I'm in full agreement with Chris here. Often the first answer might be full of assumptions or jargon you don't understand because it is a form of shorthand and your correspondent will obviously not want to waste his (or her) or your time explaining stuff you already know. This should not be taken as...

Re: Colour matching two monitors

It is common with software - even that which is only used on one machine infrequently - that if it is going to be used on multiple machines a premium is charged for the licence. Take disk cloning software for example. You are rearely going to use it, but if you want, legitimately to clone say 30 PCs...

Re: Colour matching two monitors

You have to install and register the accompanying software. I suspect alarm bells start ringing if the same serial number keeps being registered and reregistered. I've just fired up mine and there is no information about licencing in the help which is a bit wierd. Guess a trip to the website is in o...

Re: WHAT ARE YOUR YOUTUBE / VIMEO ETC NAMES?

But nobody takes notice obviously. Not true, Roy. I read Col's post and thought "Hasn't Roy already made that point?" So I, for one, was taking notice :) I think Col was simply expanding on your point. Your post says people can do it, Cols was simply proving that people (in addition to th...

Re: WHAT ARE YOUR YOUTUBE / VIMEO ETC NAMES?

I can understand Michael's reluctance. Some films are simply designed for and therefore look better on a large screen - and this isn't necessarily to do with "artiness". Indeed if you want subtitles you really need different sizes depending on the medium. But Michael, I believe you are loo...
