Re: BIAFF 2019 at Birmingham

Thanks Dave. The link takes me to Girl A background videos, but strangely not to the film itself. And if nothing else it shows how feeble Vimeo's search facility is - it could find nothing when asked about Girl A.

Re: BIAFF 2019 at Birmingham

But now of course I want to see Girl A again, but I can't find a link, not here, not on Vimeo or YT.

Re: FVM Magazine May 2019

Hey, the mag looks good, so well done Mike Whyman. I like the three word columns allowing for bigger pictures to be included on the page, and overall it looks to be a very smooth transition from the Garth era.

Re: FVM MAGAZINE - FEBRUARY 2019

Well it's the 10th May and still no May/June 2019 issue of FVM has turned up. Anyone had their copy yet?

Re: BluRay reader/writer.

If it hasn't been finalized it should play on the same computer drive I'd think.

Re: BluRay reader/writer.

Even stranger as a blank BD is 25GB or 50GB as a double layer.

Re: BluRay reader/writer.

And anyway, my Windows XP machine reads and writes Blu-rays using its LG drive, so XP isn't the problem.

Re: Hard disk drive failure

Just as a post script to this, I used one of those simple HDD caddies to connect the failed drive through USB to my working laptop, just to see if I could retrieve any of the files. Sure enough, bit by bit, and by letting it cool down between bursts, I managed to retrieve all 450gb or so of info off...

Re: BIAFF 2019 at Birmingham

Jill Lampert has been very vocal on this thread, so I'd like to share my delight at seeing her film with you lot. Here goes: Young Performers 4 stars Young Performers jump-starts, and from that point on it's the never-let-up editing that makes this such an entertaining film to watch. We're taken rig...

Re: BIAFF 2019 at Birmingham

In Durham we judge films in hotel bedrooms. Nowt wrong with that. We're in Judgement Mode; thoughtfully serious and constructively analytical. At BIAFF on Sunday we watch the same films in a completely different Entertainment Mode. We let the films wash over us, tickling our senses and playing on ou...

Re: BIAFF 2019 at Birmingham

Your film’s in competition. As one of the very many judges at BIAFF, I was privileged to see a vast cross-section of films over three days of intensive film appraisal. With only a running time given to us at the start, I could feel the expectation and excitement mount as each film hit the screen. A ...

Re: Wireless microphone system info

This looks really interesting. https://youtu.be/fHcFvbq6MrM At last, and why has it taken so long to update this idea? I've had my Samson (now Zoom) AL1 radio mic for years, and this Røde system seems to follow exactly the same design philosophy. The AL1 transmitter and receiver are tiny and both ru...

Re: FVM MAGAZINE - FEBRUARY 2019

Cathy, surely a film and video magazine is a photography magazine by its very nature? Film is 24 still images per second, video is 25, both with added sound (though not necessarily and not always). Both of them require an understanding of framing and composure, focus, DoF, exposure, focal lengths, e...

Re: Are we ready for an "Upright Film Contest"?

It is indeed aspect ratio that counts Michael, and you've correctly made a movie in 16:9, an aspect ratio that will suit 98% of all TVs in the land. What we're complaining about here is people who shot movies in the 9:16 aspect ratio and show them on a 16:9 screen, leaving nearly ⅔rds of the screen ...
