Re: UNICA

You touch on a point that has been much discussed during the pandemic ... A great many people, like Howard, argue vehemently in favour of real events, where you watch films with an audience. The ambience often adds a lot. I once watched a press-show of a riotous commercial comedy film in a huge cine...

Re: UNICA

The national organisation for each country (in UK that is The IAC) chooses the programme of films to represent the country. Each country has about 45 minutes. IAC usually chooses from among the best in BIAFF. The IAC's UNICA representative, Alan Atkinson, makes the choice with advice from others who...

Re: BIAFF 2022

The sad fact is that none of us can be certain what might be possible next April. I know a few of our European visitors, who usually enjoy BIAFF, are hoping to come but they share the same worries as Ned. Even if they can come to Britain, will they be able to go home afterwards. At present France, B...

Re: BIAFF 2022

It is worrying that so many people did not seem to get the BIAFF booking form in the recent issue of 'Film & Video Maker' (the one with the giant Kelpies on the cover.)

However you can now find it on www.biaff.org.uk/uploads/5/8/9/8/589828 ... an__1_.pdf

Re: Paul Kittel's Zoom evening

It seems to have been removed.
You will remember that Paul mentioned he had used this method of presenting the films, because technically the copyright did not belong to him.

You can buy the films - at least I think they are the ones - on Amazon on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Re: The shorcomings of a film

Michael refers to one of my favourite lines from 'Amadeus': "My dear, young man, don't take it too hard. Your work is ingenious. It's quality work. And there are simply too many notes, that's all. Cut a few and it will be perfect." It is a sentiment that can be adapted to many amateur movi...

Re: The shorcomings of a film

The relative darkness of the first one did not trouble me. The artist was clearly visible and her words were fairly interesting (though I dislike the American way of intellectualising their personal history.) The background was intrusive - what was that ladder-like thing at top right? Of course in t...

Re: Suggested One Minute films

The short answer is, yes it does. Jan and I have attended the Croatian Minute Movie Cup several times. Each good one-minute film feels like a complete story - a complete film. So ten, twenty or more feel like a marathon of watching ... but without the exhaustion that would require. I found the same ...

Re: Virtual Video Group

Hi Edin

I hope someone from the IAC Council will give a response to this.

Several regions no longer have their own competitions and neighbouring ones generally accept films from such "inactive" regions. I would hope any regional contest would be willing to accept an entry from VVG.

Re: BIAFF 2022

Jan and I have got our hotel sorted for BIAFF. Thanks to a Swiss friend who had reserved for UNICA Birmingham in 2020. Between him and Jan and they were able to negotiate with the hotel for us to use it for the BIAFF weekend. I believe we will be meeting in the Crescent Theatre's Studio - its second...
