4:3

Silent 35mm was always 4:3. When sound came they just made the picture smaller at the same ratio, leaving a large frameline to hide the splices.
Television CRTs were circular to start with (the same when colour tubes first arrived later on). This suited a square-ish format.

4:3 double (quadruple) cutoff!

I do hate it when the TV companies show 4:3 footage with the tops and bottoms cut off. The other day I saw the ultimate. Not only were the top and bottom cut off, but the sides were cut off with coloured bands to restore the 4:3 format! Madness! Bring back Laurel & Hardy, I say. Their producers ...

Hallo Dolly

Years ago I made a 3-castor device to stand a tripod on. The castors were small and being hard plastic, a bit noisy. Some time ago I found a child`s buggy seat (forgot the proper name) in a skip and pinched the wheels to make a dolly that will ride along a horizontal ladder. For when I find the time...
