The Photography Show
I returned from Birmingham yesterday after visiting the Photography Show at the NEC. What was interesting, if slightly unexpected, was that there was a lot of emphasis on film making, particularly using digital cameras, and there was a dedicated lecture area which ran 5 seminars each day over the du...

Re: BIAFF 2015 entries
It isn't just in our world where there can be problems playing discs on some equipment. At a recent screening I attended at the Glasgow Film Festival all attempts to get a film on the digital format to play, failed so this sort of thing can also happen to the pros. On the subject of dissappointing r...

Re: BIAFF 2015 entries
i'm glad I didn't predict a star rating for my film, "Glasgow's Golden Games" because I'd have been wrong! 3 stars is a bit disappointing but the judges comments suggest that what I was trying to convey in the film hasn't come across as I had intended so I'll have to study what they say an...

Re: FVM April 2015
I have an Asus laptop that I think is part of the same model range and I don't have any problems with either production of sequences produced in Pictures to exe or with the playback of exe files. I ran some AV sequences at ECVS recently directly from the lap top, plugged into a full HD projector, an...

Re: BIAFF 2015 entries
Thanks Michael, that's where I must have seen it. I sometimes used to go to London to see the Ten Best, then in later years at the GFT in Glasgow. I still have some of the old programmes which I must dig out and have a look at one of these days.

Re: BIAFF 2015 entries
I remember the one in the telephone box as well as Cotton Eyed Joe. Also, Aoife's Day by Frank Morgan, Hour of the Eagle & 29 Seconds to Zero by Ian Rintoul and Movieman by Ron Miller spring to mind as well as Zoo by Michael Slowe filmed on 16mm and cut to music.

Re: BIAFF 2015 entries
At my old club we once had a member who in spite of heroic efforts to help by experienced members struggled with all the elements of film making and on one memorable competition night presented a holiday "film" whilst reading out the commentary live from the back of the room and playing bi...

Re: BIAFF 2015 entries
Does anyone remember a movie from years back called "A Very Boring Film"? As I recall it featured one long continuous shot of a man listening to a ringing telephone and was considered quite innovative at the time. I think it won a Ten Best award and I've a feeling that I saw it at the winn...

Re: What is the best type of trophy?
Traditional trophies are a bit of a pain these days and there is always the problem of cleaning them (I've seen silver trophies ruined by people not using the correct cleaning materials) plus some of them can be very valuable with implications for insurance. Also, some people I know just keep them i...

Re: BIAFF 2015 AND BEYOND
I agree with John, and one of the other things I like about BIAFF, apart from everything that John has mentioned, is listening to the audience's reaction to films (my own or XDL) that I've been fortunate enough to have had shown. It doesn't half tell you a lot about how well or otherwise you have ac...

Film Making Magazines
Has anyone come across a magazine called "Pro Moviemaker"? It's a sister publication to "Photo Professional" and is published quarterly but I've never noticed it on the magazine stalls. It seems to be aimed at professionals so may be of limited interest to ourselves but it is des...

Re: Filming with a DSLR
Yesterday I was in Edinburgh for the annual ritual of photographing the entertainers at the Festival Fringe who congregate in the Royal Mile to promote their shows. Whilst there I noticed someome filming a musician using an SLR which was mounted on something similar to a short monopod with a small p...

Filming with a DSLR
Just to let you know, in case you haven't seen it; this weeks edition of Amateur Photographer magazine (out today) contains the first of a new series on filming using a DSLR camera.
