Re: Fnal Cut - goodnight?

For any of you who may be concerned about the recent changes to FCP and possible alternative NLE programs, you may find the following of interest. A recent post on the GV Edius forum included this demonstration of Edius's real time performance, go to this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHXOf8A...

Re: Fnal Cut - goodnight?

The King is dead, long live the King. I am not a Mac fanatic and I have expounded the virtues of Edius for many years, I also have PP CS5 and Vegas 9 and have run these NLEs on both a MacPro and on my custom built PC. I have long criticised the old FCP for poor real time performance with the need to...

Re: 'Low Energy' lamps

I recently bough 6 LED lights, each having three rows of 18 LEDs, from ASDA. They are battery operated and provide a good, although a rather norrow beam output that is compatible with my other studio daylight temperature lamps. Cost: £6 each. Although bought for a particular project where space was ...

Re: A guide to a PC's specifcation

I have both Edius 6 and Premiere Pro CS5 running on the same PC. The graphics board used is a GTX460 and there is 12GB of RAM. Looking at the performance of my system on the PPBM5 benchmark site (via the Adobe PP CS5 forum) it is well up with the rest of the others that use more expensive graphics c...

Re: Modern AVCHD cams

Billy,

I can recommend the GTX460 graphics card as I have one fitted in my system that is based on an i7 350 (3GHz) CPU plus 12GB RAM. PPCS5 works well, almost as much real time performance as Edius on the same machine.

Re: Filters and how/when to use them

I can only echo Tom's advice. Try this as a test, point your camera outdoors throughthe window with the window providing a dark frame, do this with and without filters whilst gently moving the camera around a little and see the effect of internal reflections on the image, even with the best filters.

Re: Movies from modestly priced "still" cameras

I believe that most modern DVD/Bluray players will accept 30p and playback well on UK televisions. Just to liven debate a little, I wonder if perhaps we should all record in 30p rather than 25p as the horrible stuttering that 25p introduces is far less obvious in 30p and modern LCD and plasma displa...

Guernsey International Short Film Festival 2011

Good news.

It looks as if the Guernsey Lilly will continue, but with a new name.

Well done to all in Guernsey for persuading the powers that be that the festival was held with great affection and value in our world.

Hope to be there.

Re: Edius 4 to 5 upgrade and Mercalli

I've just downloaded Mercalli v.2 for use in PP CS5, but it also included a plug-in for Edius. The outcome of this new software is an even better result that is achieved more easily than before, although not quite so fast in processing. It's interesting to note that even on an i7 950 + 12GB RAM + GT...

Re: Adobe Premiere CS 5

Ned,

I forgot to mention that Edius is usually the first to have updated codecs, AVCHD was one in point, so I don't think that there is anything to worry about there.

Re: Adobe Premiere CS 5

To answer your question, Ned, I do hope that it is. GV are very strong in the broadcast digital production and distribution environment and from what I've heard from GV, they consider Edius to be an important part in this area's future growth. Broadcast news is certainly using it and I know that it ...

Re: Edius 4 to 5 upgrade and Mercalli

Hi Tom, The problem you're experiencing is due to the dreaded XDCAM Select being active. When you launch Edius, the XDCAM Select automatically switches on and, in fact, delays the launch of Edius. You will see a small camera icon on the RHS of the toolbar at the bottom of the screen, the one having ...

Re: Edius 4 to 5 upgrade and Mercalli

Tom,

Make sure that you download the latest version update from the GV site. If I remember correctly, that will then re-register the program for you, but you must have the latest version for it to run in E5.

Not even PP has this superb plugin!!!

Re: Adobe Premiere CS 5

The reason that I got CS5 was that I mainly wanted to update Photoshop and the educational discount was too big an attraction to miss! Edius has long been my software of choice and it remains so. It is very stable (I have yet to judge PP CS5), and very quick to use; simple things like double clickin...

They are here and work on my PC, but if I remember correctly, I had to install them from the V4 software package.
