Re: Premiere Elements 13/14
I was trying to capture edited movies from mini DV to make up a programme to burn to disc. I've since discovered that the current version of Microsoft's Windows Movie Maker (free download) retains the ability to capture mini dv or hdv via fire wire but unfortunately splits the clips up in the proces...

Premiere Elements 13/14
If anyone is using Premiere Elements up to version 12 to capture video by firewire from Mini DV tape or HDV you should know that from version 13 Adobe have removed this feature. I upgraded to Elements 14 recently when I got a new computer and have just spent two hours trying to work out why the comp...

Re: BIAFF 2016 - who's entering?
We have entered an XDL Films film but unfortunately I don't have a personal movie for BIAFF this time. I've just recently completed an AV sequence of a cruise I did in July which combines some video material (shot on a Panasonic 920) and digital stills shot on a Canon G12, all presented in the 16 x ...

Re: How was The Celebrity Weekender ?
I was there from the Friday and thoroughly enjoyed the weekend. On Friday evening we had a very interesting presentation by Paul Vernon about how he went about shooting his western films, two in Arizona and another in Aberdeenshire. To mark the 50th anniversary of the introduction of Super 8 film an...

Why is it is that these days what used to be simple processes become more and more complicated to achieve?

Scotland's Home Movies
If any of you have not seen the recent terrific BBC Scotland programme "Scotland's Home Movies:Memories on Film", which features Norman Speirs, I'm told by the producer/director that it is being repeated on Monday 7th September on BBC4 at 8pm. I would encourage everyone to try and see this...

Re: A new competition
As an experiment I recently shot some video using a Nikon D7100 with sound recorded via the Nikon supplementary microphone and I have to say that I was very pleased with the results. The picture quality (full HD) was excellent and the sound was also pretty good so I can understand why filming on dig...

Re: A new competition
Has anyone looked at this competition? I think it is significant that it has been launched by a photographic journal as so many people now seem to be filming with digital cameras. I was in Glasgow yesterday and saw three groups of what appeared to be students filming in the city centre. They were al...

A new competition
Amateur Photographer Magazine recently set up a new website for movie makers and I see from this weeks AP that they have launched a new film making competition. It's in three rounds each with a different theme, and there are prizes worth £10,000. The web-site is http://www.thevideomode.com/afoy if a...

Re: Film Synopses - on entry forms
Tony makes a very good point about the usefulness of a synopsis for the competition manager. I know that David views all the BIAFF entries before allocating them into judging sessions so having a written synopsis prepared by each author must save him quite a lot of time. As a judge I would always jo...

Re: Article on IAC
Mark, I don't think that there is anything in your article that could cause offence. The vexed question of how to get young people more involved has been debated within the IAC since the 1980's at least. There have been many initiatives over the years by a number of people so I don't think it is for...

Perhaps I'm completely wrong but on the day I wondered if "Irreversible" was making a statement about capital punishment?

Re: BIAFF - the Festival
Got home at 5pm, weary after a long journey and a great weekend, but excited about the excellent films on show at BIAFF this year. It would be nice though if this thread could, just for once, be confined to debating the actual films we saw rather than, as often happens, spinning off on other topics ...

Re: Festival Entry Fees
I find Paypal to be very convenient. The Scottish Photographic Federation has adopted Paypal this year for entries to the Scottish Salon allied to an on-line system for completing entry forms and submitting images (prints still need to be posted of course).
