Re: Film Synopses - on entry forms

Re.: SYNOPSES As John R. says I would not dream of paying to see a mainstream feature film or any film without knowing just what it was I was letting myself in for, likewise, I would want to know something about a film before I settled down to view whether it be amateur non-cost or whatever purely i...

Re: 'IN MEMORIAM'

Hi Willy, thank you for commenting on my film and I am pleased you found it as I intended it to be, a moving piece of work designed to 'bring home' the futility and stupidity of war in all its' manifestations. The first world war as you have pointed out was particularly so mainly because of the scal...

Re: 'IN MEMORIAM'

Thanks for your comments Peter, you clearly like the film which for me is what it's all about (as for anyone), the mixed reception it has received since showing here and there has covered the entire 0-10 scale, people either connect with it or do not it seems, but that will always be the case with a...

'IN MEMORIAM'

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ys-q_qedP8A&feature=youtu.be Hi all, posted this for Willy essentially given his clear empathy from some of his posts, but would be interested in comments from all who view. Apologies for any loss of quality or interruption (if any) before I get to see the result...

Re: Music videos

There might well be an age-related 'appreciation gap' where this subject is concerned I've begun to think y'know, the music video is a relative newcomer where the film-world is concerned and as a consequence there might well be a tendency for the older generation of film-makers and indeed film-viewe...

Re: Music videos

Fair enough John, we seem to have reached some form of agreeable disagreement which, I think, boils down to me not being as 'passionate' about music videos as you clearly are and of course when a certain level of creativity is displayed in their making and presentation, then they deserve all praise ...

Re: Music videos

Well chaps, I was not suggesting a blanket ban on music videos, but simply expressing my own views on is it a film? or is it a piece of music? I would quite happily watch any music video if presented to me just as I quite happily watch anything else to which someone has dedicated time and effort int...

Re: Music videos

Yep, I understand where you're coming from John and would not disagree with what you say and have seen many music videos which I have enjoyed from a purely personal point of view, but as far as amateur film-making is concerned would not include them within the 'amateur film-making world' as I know i...

Re: Music videos

You're right of course Tim, but for 'tend to' in this case read 'generally'. I have to say that I'm not a fan of the style either, I hesitate to call it a 'genre' in fact because I see it as inhabiting a world of its' own, the inclusion of a 'film-track' supports the music in my view, but does littl...

Re: Music videos

Thought the video Ned C posted was good, but I'd call it a film set to music rather than a 'music video'. I see such styles as Neds' something like AV, but with moving images instead of stills. 'Music Video' to me is quite easy to define i.e. it is a piece of film which as Bob Lorrimer says promotes...

Re: Recommend A Repair Centre

Hi Stephen, I had a Panasonic NV-GS230 my first camera (SD camcorder) bought in 2007 and was persuaded to take out camera insurance at the time of purchase to cover for accidental damage and so on and although am rather sceptical where such things are concerned, because this was my first venture int...

I am not bothered by it either Michael (so there are at least two of us), but I wonder what the vote would be if there were to be one?

Re: Pay Per View

As far as making money from film (any film) I think that is an entirely personal decision to take and I'm all for it, but if a film is made with the idea of making money ultimately, then you enter a world in which money is the aim and not the love of film-making, I'm not suggesting you can't combine...

Re: My latest Movie short

Couldn't resist a comment on the Col Lamb/Chrisbitz challenge. Watched both films through and thought both good for different reasons. Col Lambs' came out as good for simply being 'done in a day' and while the 'titles' issue has been well and truly 'done' have to say 'well done'. The problem with su...

Re: Judging Panels

I take your point about appraisal Tim and from my own experience recognise the value of it, in my view and as far as I can tell there are only two types, verbal and written. Verbal is as we all know, delivered usually on the day pretty much immediately after viewing (sometimes during) and takes diff...
