I asked a friend who makes a lot of videos of bands and his reply was: Good quality video, film or photography is simply not possible in low light. It is, however, possible to shoot in a well lit environment and make it appear that it was shot :- 1) In a dimly lit j...

In Belgian festivals also mini-DV-tapes are used because of the many problems with DVD's. Last year a film made by one of the young members of my club was selected for the National Competition. He didn't want to attend the festival as he hates these competitions. He gave me his film on DVD ! He refu...

This is a good example of the sheer importance of CONTENT over all else. "Low Handrail" is one of my one minute movies. Two men are having a beer in a pub. They are tipsy. They leave the pub when it's already dark. The pub is near the railway line. They cannot find their way back home and ...

The Queen in my film !

Some time ago I received archive films from the curator of the Passchendaele Museum in Belgium. They are very useful for my film about the First World War in Flanders. The Battle of Passchendaele took place in 1917. More than half a million of soldiers were killed, wounded or missed. In one month ti...

I agree that friendship or connections should play no part in judging and in my experience never have. No matter how we slice it different judges will often review the same film with totally different evaluations. Ned
I agree that friendship should play no part in judging.

a blind man would like to buy a flat..... If someone made a film about a balding young man (like me!) then I would not be offended. If you have a disability, then you can either mope around all your life or you can make the most of life and be ha...

The AMPS definition is clear, the film must not be made for financial reward or expect to be rewarded at some later date. If a winning film goes on to commercial distribution then the award is forfeit and an announcement would be made in the AMPS newsletter. _________________________________________...

Hello Dave, Yes of course, also "Extension Event" and "Plan B" are on that DVD, the two British entries. Wonderful films. I had already seen them a few times before. In Chesterfield I think and also on a British DVD. The Belgians enjoyed the British humour in these films very muc...

UNICA Films in our club

Last night I saw some UNICA films in my club. In Flanders you can hire a DVD with some UNICA films on it. Perhaps also in Britain. I am sure that Dave Watterson has seen the film. He was a judge in South Korea and also some other forum friends attended the world festival down under. The Dutch had ma...

Yes, Tom. You're right. Paragraphing makes it easier to read. I will think about it when writing messages.

One of the films I enjoyed most when making it was "Schola Europaea Symphony". I am sure that Dave and other friends remember that film. There was some discussion in Guernsey about it, but I had very good results at BIAFF and the "Lily Festival". The theme was : "The Europea...
