Re: How do you learn to make better films?
To take up on Jameela's point: "So for us, (as film-makers) do we consider ourselves camera operators looking for a subject to make? ...or story tellers looking for a way to visually express our story? For many of us the answer is perhaps both at the same time." The one who thinks they are...

Re: How do you learn to make better films?
I sometimes find the more you think about things the worse the film gets! Concluding that sometimes its good to trust ones intuition. The subconscious picks up lifes experiences and spits it out in thoughts and suggestions. The art people create in films says something about the film-maker and that ...

Re: BIAFF 2021 RESULTS
Thanks Howard, someone has to ask the idiot question! I see you will only be the 10th person to achieve the FACI(M). Also I see that our former chairperson was awarded the FACI Fellowship. I found a link to a list of qualifyers at the top of the page you quoted. I was in Dorchester Camera Club for 3...

Re: BIAFF 2021 RESULTS
Sorry I had no films in this time, but my brain is still active! I see Michael Gough is a FACI (M) also. What does FACI (M) mean? And is there any record of how people achieved their FACI. Does anybody know how our departed Chairman Anne Vincent (Weymouth) achieved her FACI, was it a film she made?

Re: BIAFF 2021 RESULTS
That is fantastic Howard, the film Conrad certainly warrents a 5 star and now a Diamond also. You were blessed wth those actors but how sad to hear about Simon Hawkins. He was troubled in real life as well as in the film, what a loss. I expect you had the most number of films in this time! Good luck...

Re: What constitutes an amateur film?
Going back to what makes an amateur film: I feel we should be proud of the amateurish genre or style of particular films which are made by some of our members. For me entertainment is the most important thing for a club film and if that film was made with zero budget and a low res camara and crazy t...

Re: What constitutes an amateur film?
As someone who is "late to the forum party" I have been reading through some of the old threads, thinking about where I stand on some of the issues. and what construtive post I could make. I like thinking about what role people like playing in the art of film making and things like that. P...

Re: What constitutes an amateur film?
I was lucky enough to hear Geoff Harmer talk about the making of his Diamond award film Dead Air at the on-line BIAFF last year. It gave me an understanding of the sort of budgets needed to make that sort of amateur film. Hire of film set, hire of cameras, catering for actors ect. That sort of inter...
