ps Forgot to mention that FC Studio also includes DVD Studio Pro 4 a very powerful DVD creation program, a program so powerful I have a hard time with it.

I have Final Cut Studio which comprises Final Cut Pro 5.1 HD the editing program, Soundtrack Pro which is an audio editing/sound sweetening program and Motion a motion graphics program. FCP projects can be moved in and out of the other two programs. I have used FCP since version 2, mainly because I ...

I love the Spielberg argument, I only wish he would enter a non-commercial film in the AMPS Fest, what a publicity coup that would be!

Thanks for your posting, Willy, and I look forward to seeing the UNICA films. There really must be a broadly aceptable resolution to the amateur/professional discussion. The AMPS definition is clear, the film must not be made for financial reward or expect to be rewarded at some later date. If a win...

For the AMPS Fest we accept PAL entries only on DVD and have had no problem finding a player that plays them. However, we have seen some entries with minor glitches and others that play absolutely perfectly and assume that this is a product of the method of encoding to DVD. An interesting project he...

There seems to be a difference in the equipment sold in Canada and that sold in the USA. The Canadian VHS/DVD players often play PAL with no problem. Very few players here in the USA play PAL. There is an inexpensive DVD player widely available that actually transcodes PAL to NTSC and we recommend t...

How do you train and test potential judges? Who judges the judges? What do I expect from a judge? They should be thoroughly versed in all aspects of film and be regular viewers of contemporary films. They don't have to be film makers but it helps if they are. If they don't like my film that's fine b...

For young or beginning film makers who want access to equipment I don't think a club will help as my memory of clubs is that they are made up of individuals who own and use their own equipment. Club productions are done by those with the equipment and they don't loan it out to newcomers. I agree tha...

Willy's comments are very interesting, he lists scenes in films that he finds offensive and then complains that he was marked down for showing a bull fight killing that a judge found offensive. Tom castigates a judge who marked a film down for showing a similar scene. Come on guys! All film viewing ...

You don't have to belong to a club to make films, Peter. All you need are a few chums and a willingness to approach the local theatre group and you are in business. Basic miniDV cameras are now inexpensive and produce amazing results, tape is cheap and if you have a recent computer, Mac has iMovies ...

This is not new as John Cassavetes made most of his personal films this way with a group of friends (including Peter Falk and his wife Gena Rowlands). Mike Leigh uses a version of this, very similare to that described by Dave for Ken Loach. The essential ingredient is GOOD actors and it would be int...
