Re: Judges critiques - a criticism!
As one who wandered off the track, sorry. Mike is surely right; such brief comments are impolite at best.

Re: Judges critiques - a criticism!
the opening caption did not say that it was to be given away as you describe. It stated that the film was made to be shown to disabled visitors unable to walk around the house, this puts a quite different perspective on the purpose for which the film was made. I was glad to hear that this film had ...

[quote="ned c"]For really cryptic comments enter the Morecambe Intl!!
I was somewhat amazed to be asked to judge here - had to decline - 9am - 9pm !!
My comments would have been cryptic long before the end.

Re: Sony DSR 20 will not display
Mea culpa! - of course! - what do they say about a bad workman blaming his tools?
I'd plugged the TV into 'output' instead of 'monitor'. All's well.

Re: Sony DSR 20 will not display
Thanks, Michael, but there is no 'display' button on the deck itself. The 'remote/local' switch has to be set to 'local' for the remote to work and it is, and other functions can be worked by the remote, it's just display that can't, and of course as I can't see the display I can't tell if any menu ...

Sony DSR 20 will not display
Suddenly my DSR 20 DVCAM deck does not respond to pressing 'Display' button on the remote so I cannot see timecode or other date on my TV monitor although the remote works everything else OK and the video shows on the TV too. Any ideas, anyone. Do the buttons on remotes go down? Can they be cleaned?...

Re: Should we circulate judges' comments?
Dave says:-
Jan and I would be happy to put crits up online ... but we would want both the writer of each crit and the film maker concerned to agree first ... which is a lot of admin work.
This could be part of the conditions of entry, perhaps.

Or is the notion that the comments should circulate with DVDs of the winners?

Ned says:- Create enough categories to ensure that apples are compared with apples. In my opinion the value of the judge’s comments is tremendous and well worth continuing, time consuming, demanding but so valuable. One of the problems many of us face is knowing just what people are making now and w...

Re: FVM latest Issue - amateur
Good of all of you to reply. I really have given up the argument! I daresay you are right! I was only pointing out the fact that our card still says we are amateur. It need only say that the person holding the card will not profit from the privileges being asked for and not mention the A word at all...

OK, so you haven't looked at your membership cards before replying!
They say 'Holders of this card are amateurs...'
I am NOT going on about it, just saying that our cards still say we are 'A's (rude word, to some of you, not repeated)!
Peter.

FVM latest Issue - amateur
Hallo there, Gerald,
If you take a look at the fine print on your IAC membership card you will find that we have not dropped the wordamateur. And a good thing too in my opinion but I'm not going on about it - MUCH!

Re: Should BIAFF change?
I really do feel that the top films at BIAFF should be shown in a cinema. I realise this might not be possible at all our usual venues but I would have thought we should do try to do this and invite the public. For my money, which is now a good deal less than I expected or my pension provider promis...
