In my working life I used to attend a lot of conferences and I've seen technical problems occur with professional presentations so please let's not be too critical about Sunday. I was sitting close to where the projectionists were set up and could see that they worked very hard indeed over the whole...

You could try Audacity which is quite a good free programme available from http://audacity.sourceforge.net

I use it to record commentary and music from CD. you can edit and export as a WAV file to your movie editing software.

I agree with Michael. Age has nothing to do with the desire or ability to make films or to have innovative ideas. In any case I don't think we can afford to be choosy - we need to attract people of any age.

To the rule of thirds as mentioned by Ian, I can add the 80/20 rule which is a useful guide for shooting landscape scenes. The idea is that the horizon will be either on a line 20% up from the bottom of the frame or 20% down from the top with the remaining 80% being sky or land respectively. You wil...

This is a serious question and not meant to be rude but why do people buy, at high prices, fragile Super 8 mm feature films when most films are available on DVD which can be projected to at least the same size as S 8 mm with better picture quality and superior sound? With the advent of HD then the ...

Isn't it wonderful to see a projector made all those years ago still capable of giving good reliable service today. Here's a web site that the projector and film collecting buffs might also like to see: http://www.bfcc.biz/ For those of you who haven't come across the site before, Keith Wilton who r...

That's a brilliant link Dave. Personally, I never, ever, under any circumstances, in any way shape or form, forward chain e mails to anybody as they are a complete waste of time and an utter nuisance.

I've viewed the trailer and think it is excellent. I love the way you've used the music to help intensify the tension.

I hand write my labels. It doesn't look very elegant but at least I can see what's on the tape! I started out with a numbering system but that fell by the wayside a long time ago - perhaps I should revive it and log everything in the computer but oh, the time it would take because I'm one of those s...

Although I'm a believer in competitions I agree with Roy and think it's a good idea to have opportunities on a club syllabus to show members films in a non competitive way just for the fun of it. In this way you might, hopefully, encourage members who may feel imtimidated by competitions. On the mat...

I agree. I think at the very least that all films need an opening and closing title with some appropriate music. For the conclusion of a film I'm not that keen on "The End" as a final caption and for my personal films I usually repeat the film's title then fade to black. I also like to see...

To develop my earlier comment, just like BP is universally known by its initials and is best known for selling petrol so the IAC can be referred to as a federation (or organisation) for people and groups who make non-commercial films. I think the intials "IAC" have a nice feel to them and ...

The debate about the age profile in clubs has cropped up many times before and I can recollect this issue being discussed as far back as the 1970's. It's a similar story with the name of the IAC and although, as Dave points out, the official title was changed some time ago I think most of us simply ...
