I'm sure one way or another film makers are documenting the goings on but will anyone make a movie about remains. As such we film whatever happens and let it sit for at least 5 years then dust it off for an archive feature. People are more relaxed to see things after the distance of time.

Last October after a long dry summer we got a flood that rose 10ft in 3hours and took out a well used footbridge over Thurso River. Some council official stalled the matter to the extent that we still don't have a replacement. There was a rumour that someone filmed the bridge giving way. If I had kn...

Yes Mr Thomlinson, sir. I've worked with the BBC twice! (I also do pro-theatre, radio and film) Whilst money is wasted it's not unique to the Beeb but it remains that whatever the news item, there is so much going on and so much preasure to get the bulletins ready that something has to give even for...

Yikes, please don't try to pin us to a type. We don't like the 'type' thing. We have a broad spectrum of interests that go beyond anything to do with film making. Have a look here: http://thursopicturehouse.piczo.com We make films, we show films. We film things for archive, we record sounds, documen...

Perhaps the BBC hasn't time nor money to spend on clearing a street to get a clean soundtrack after a terrorist attack. I think we should accept the sound on the news at least whether we like it or not as the news teams face dangers to bring us these bulletins. It costs money to set things up and yo...

Don't take the technical or acting sides for granted (only the audience do that) just don't worry about it so much. Make your films and do the best you can and never stand waiting for anyone to say thank you. You'll only feel the cold hands of dissappointment. Be welcoming to bad reviews and low/no ...

Isn't this great, who'd have thought we'd be discussing projection when amateur movie makers switched to video all those years ago. I always thought it would go this way. Anywhoo, for my tuppence worth (to the value of a half penny) A bright picture has a different focal point to a dark picture beca...

Essentialy we are looking for something that pleases us in what ever mood we go to see a film. Gosh I've even watched a Van Deisel movie from start to finish. (it was still crud tho!)

Film Thurso has never put a film into competition (we just keep spending money on ourselves) but might someday. It is an interesting point about judges. Film makers will weigh up a picture from a very different perspective than the viewer. Perhaps therin lies the flaw in having film makers be the ju...

Okay, What is meant by 'new v traditional? Is this about techniques or equipment or the whole shabbang. Personally I think any film maker should try to be aware of all methods and ways to make movies. I've seen forums where they get in a tiffle on "what's the best video camera" or "sh...

There are some interesting ideas there alone Willy. A production excersise I recommend to our team is to 'chance-shoot', which is simply to go out and film an event or maybe a sport like Surfing or Skateboarding. Essentialy they should film something common and ordinary and then make something compl...

I saw that Doctor Who Special and in one way there was an element of reality missed with the 3D. Now I disagree with the idea of needing two lenses (I'll come back to this pending 39 year old memory). In our view onto the world 3D is more a state of mental awareness of the fact that we can move arou...
