We're not an all-male club. We've got men, women, fools, idiots and old boogers to boot. Come on, speak up silent folkies- we don't bite. (but we may nibble! )

I made a film in 2004 called "Seven Shades" which is a silent comedy in monochrome 4:3 done in the style of early romantic comedies. We even used the railway track- classic stuff! :D

I understand that to film in the city centres of Glasgow & Edinburgh, one needs permission from the city councils and you also have to inform the police of what you are doing and why. This may also apply in Aberdeen and Dundee. I haven't had any bother in Inverness but it's grown so much these l...

There's never enough preservation. My personal preference is that 35mm should be preserved on 35mm but for cost reasons it is often dropped to 16mm internegs. Whilst it saves the image it doesn't save the full detail of the original. We are also in that position of having to save material on lower g...

Even if you never go back to recut a film the camera originals have archive value- maybe not to you but someone in the future may be interested enough to make a documentary about amateur film making. Raw footage is extremely useful because it enables a rare glimpse at what goes on between takes. Wha...

Yikes, I'ts not like video tape costs a fortune! These are not the days of the BBC erasing original tapes of Doctor Who. I've never known anyone to ditch the originals. How bazaar!

Solid state cameras would be a good thing in many respects but I feel it is important that you can extract a master recording in it's own solid state before anything else, i.e. like having a reel of cine film or tape from the camera that will then be copied and edited leaving the master untarnished....

HOT WHEELS

Our latest little movie online at youtube (without sound).
Best seen on the big screen with it's soundtrack but still a nice little gem made from very little film shot during a spare 35 minutes in Perth, Scotland.

The copyright licenses are the main reason. Without them our films would be so inhibited and any music we could have gotten would not be able to extend to the needs of most of our work. Most of our films have a story nature that requires orchestral soundtracks and whilst we do have an orchestra avai...

Generally price balanced against features are what we look for. BUT we don't want too many advance features on the camera, basic is preferred with the following specs: 1) Minimum 10x zoom 2) 37mm thread on lens 3) 4:3 ratio plate for CinemaScope compatability 4) Stereo sound 5) Stereo mic input 6) 3...
