Re: BIAFF - the Festival

It was the father's call that really hit the message home for me, it was at that point that i could feel the lump in my throat growing. Not many films hit me emotionally, but that one knocked me for six. :)

But you are right Tim in that films affect people in many different ways.

Re: BIAFF - the Festival

Thanks for the comments on 'Selfie' all. Really pleased it went down so well. I almost didn't enter it to be honest, being a horror i thought it wouldn't be well received at this festival... how wrong was I!? I only came for the Sunday, and my favourite films were 'Arefi Der Hirte' and 'Fall'. I tho...

Re: Pay Per View

No problem Willy. :) I've remembered the film that first brought this question up. It was a Diamond winning film called 'Rex', the makers were selling copies online to try and recoup some of their costs. It was discussed somewhere in these forums. I don't remember the outcome, but i do remember that...

Re: Pay Per View

It would be interesting to know how many of the films entered into BIAFF were completely self-funded, or had monies coming in from grants/sponsorships/crowd-funding campaigns etc? How many would not be eligible for entry if that clause applied?

Re: Pay Per View

Cheers Ned. I use a site called IndieReign.com. You basically upload your film, create a page, put it live then advertise it in anyway you can. I want to wait until 'Selfie' has done a few film festivals before putting it online, i have 3 screenings this month, so maybe early May would be a good sta...

Re: Pay Per View

The reason i posted the question is that i put 'Addict' on a Pay Per View site late last year... only ever had 2 rentals mind. I also put 'Karen's Room' up there. I haven't removed KR from Vimeo or YouTube where you can watch it completely free, but i did put it on the PPV site to see if anyone woul...

Re: BIAFF 2015 entries

John Roberts says Maybe some kind of 'check list' where judges indicate the number of films produced in various genres in the last 5 years might be useful? That might go some way to ensure any one judging panel doesn't end up with three judges whose combined output only covers one genre. Just a tho...

Pay Per View

I know this discussion has come up before, but wanted to raise it again. What are your views on using Pay Per View sites with your films? Making movies is a costly business, and for those that self finace the films like myself, often run out of cash! Using Crowd Funding sites seems to be the current...

Re: BIAFF 2015 entries

I got my results on Monday evening via email... i've tried to restrain myself from telling everyone (out of respect for those that haven't received their results yet), but had to shout about it this morning. My short film 'Selfie' has won a Diamond Award, which i am VERY proud of. I was quietly conf...

Re: BIAFF 2015 entries

I think Howard-Smith's assessment of the Judging weekend is spot on. :) This was my second year at judging, and i thoroughly enjoyed the whole process. I saw a huge number of films that littered the entire spectrum of ratings from 1 to 5. I agree with what you are saying Tim regarding the point of v...

Re: Guerilla Festivals

For the most part Tim, you are spot on. They occasionally get a 'hobbyist', but most people want to move onto the next step, etc. It's really great and inspiring to watch so many talented people on their journey! :)

Re: Film look

These days, the film look is only the click of a button away. But you can't fake it that well... nothing like the real thing to be honest. I'm glad i moved on from my old Super8. Make movies is so much easier than it used to be. Rather than having a 100 things to worry about when making a movie... i...
