Re: Samsung SDHC camcorder - editing question
Tom Without downloading the user manual I'd guess that: - 1 - No, there are options for recording HD at different quality (different bitrates) settings and at 1080/720/sd but with MPEG4 you generally do not capture video as you do with MiniDV or HDV you simply transfer the file from the SD card to t...

Re: POSITIVE IDEAS FOR 'Film & Video Maker' ARTICLES
Edin I have just sent off to Garth Hope an article on using a DSLR and in particular one of the Canon models. He is going to include it in the Nov/Dec issue. There are a few forums out there specifically for DSLR movie making, check out: - www.vimeo.com www.cinema5D.com http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/ ...

Re: Judges and their credibility
Well I had hoped that my comments would get some constructive dialogue taking place, but not so far. Having watched quite a lot of IAC compilations I generally find them lacking in the most part, the UNICA compilations on the other hand have some very good movies. Look at web sites and in particular...

Re: Judges and their credibility
Well said Lee It is a long time since I put in one of my own movies to BIAFF and from the comments I did receive, it was not worth the postage me sending in a movie. Nothing constructive at all, nothing negative, just I did not understand it. What was there to understand? What was the editing like, ...

Re: THE NAME OF OUR ORGANISATION
Ah, a rose by any other name...............etc Does our name really matter enough to change it, the cost alone of re-branding should surely be enough for any of you to throw the idea out? The IAC is known world wide and do you really want to have not notify everyone who is involved one way or anothe...

Adobe Premiere CS 5
Hi folks As you are aware Adobe Premiere CS5 is out there and in theory has some very nice features but it does require a fast PC with a 64 bit operating system such as Windows 7. The new Mercury rendering engine seems to offer very good performance with the right graphics card. Now the rub, on Adob...

Re: Blu-ray at contests/festivals
I use solid state. Take a look at the Western Digital WD TV unit, it plugs in via HDMI and has a USB2 socket (Network socket on some models as well). Into the USB I can put a memory stick, a card reader or a portable hard drive. My movies are in HD format h264 and it plays them great, I also encode ...

Re: Motion activated lights
As a Chartered Engineer by profession the installation probably does not comply with the IEE Regulations if local isolation (ie a manually operated lightswitch) is not present. There has to be a means of safely isolating the light fitting to change the lamp. I'd get in touch with the Boss of the Est...

One thing that we have not got to the bottom of is exactly who initiated the tender.
Will the guilty party please own up?
What next, a tender for someone to update our outdated website?

Re: Canon 7D
The downside of using a DSLR for HD video is that the optical viewfinder is locked and you have to use the rear lcd panel and the end result is that you do need a hood device of some kind to be able to see the lcd panel. There are a few options avaibale but the Zacuto Z finder is certainly the way t...

I give my full support Garth.
May he continue editing the mag for as long as he wants.
Who is it within the organisation that is after a new editor?
That is the person we should target

Re: Camcorder for travelling Also AVID training DVD's.
If you are after a very small lightweight camcorder then look at the Sony TG7, if you are into digital photography then a Canon 550D takes superb images and also full HD video and the Canon lenses has optical stabilization. On a completely different take, then look at the very small Panasonic digita...

Re: Lady Needs Camera
I dont know where on ebay the search has been but if you select Sony > Mini DV > DV in you get masses available Do remember that the camcorders with enabled DV IN were the top of the range. My DCR PC 100 is a small palmcorder with large Zeiss lens, manual controls, mike input, headphones, DV in/out....
