Re: How do you "sell" a film festival?

Thanks, guys, this is fascinating ... but not quite the point I wanted. Be careful what you wish for! When I wrote about "if you can't sell the sausage, sell the sizzle" I really meant that I want to know in this case: what is the "sizzle"? But you are advising on how to make a ...

Re: How do you "sell" a film festival?

Do we want 4000 entries by people who enter everything that's going?

Come on be serious! It is actually expensive for non IAC members to enter. But too many films to easily handle would be a good problem imho

Re: How do you "sell" a film festival?

1/ Yes the audience of the Purbeck Film Festival probably were mainly friends and family of the film makers. I went to a similar film festival at the Bournmouth Shelley Theatre and it all seemed to be student films mainly bad animations, it was nearly fully sold out, but the atmosphere good, indeed ...

Re: How do you "sell" a film festival?

I have been to two Film Festivals recently, The last BIAFF at the Crescent Theatre and The Purbeck Film Festival at the Rex Cinema, Wareham Dorset. The Purbeck Film Festivals 125 seats were sold out, the films were mainly very good student films; "Shorts" as they call them. I would say BIA...

Re: UK FILM REVIEWS

What an interesting story, you are thick skinned to make the film when the originator of the story was against you. I have just watched it again. I felt the woman actor could have done with a bit more emotion but surely it should have been at least a BIAFF 4 star. Watching your films I am a bit worr...

Should the link be http://www.ukfilmreview.co.uk/ without the s ? Thanks for sharing the review Howard. They went to a great deal of trouble, I suppose they are trying to make a sort of online business. I have watched the film, I wonder why you chose to have the dialogue in Russian, did you have som...

Re: Horror Adrenaline Rush

Haha! I've no idea! :-) I would probably be fine... even though my mind does get carried away at times. :-) I may make a little film using the above scenario. I think up lots of short film ideas but most don't even make it onto paper let alone into the DVR. It is amazing and admirable the drive tha...

Re: Jameela

I just wanted to show an alternative brighter possible future, and how the IAC could become attractive to serious younger filmmakers. Jameela The younger film makers who have been invited to be BIAFF judges in recent years seem to have settled in well and enjoyed themselves, but they do lead busy l...

Re: FILM FESTIVAL AWARDS

As I've mentioned previously on the forum, I submit films to various festivals via Film Freeway. As we know, film judgements and appraisals can never be totally objective, nor is film judging an exact science. Well done Howard, I really admire your enthusiasm. Also I get the feeling your self belie...

Re: The Evolution of Home Entertainment

There is normally a need for passive forms of entertainment and active, involved creativity. Nearly anyone can do the passive form! Film making is more active and can be more rewarding. At different times there is a need for both active and passive forms.

Great picture, all three of you look so happy, and as you say the sunshine and the blossom really set the picture off. I have now read all this thread and my view is the modern environment of increasing video platforms on the internet it is amazing what BIAFF has been able to achieve. The fact that ...

Re: Jameela

A festival should be a festival not a competition, but could we not at least abolish the: 'One, Two and Three star awards', while offering these filmmakers the option to withdraw their work and improve it in line with the feedback given, then re-enter their film for the following festival, otherwis...
