Go on Michael, spill the beans! What do you know?
I suspect you’re bluffing… unless you’ve hacked into the BIAFF organisers’ computers!

Re: How short is too short?
I think that a film less than a minute long is hardly worthwhile… though the shorter the running time the less appropriate it is to say that it’s a waste of time.

Re: UNICA
Suddenly I find that the forum has come out of hibernation! I don’t agree that the majority of filmmakers use other festivals as a stepping stone to get into the professional film industry. Yes, many do, but the hugely successful Birmingham Film Festival had around 900 entries, almost 30o of which w...

Re: UNICA
I was lucky enough to have a film selected for UNICA about 4 years ago, ‘Like a Bullet’ starring the late Simon Hawkins. This was awarded 4 stars at BIAFF but it didn’t win anything at UNICA and received a pretty harsh review. Nevertheless it was an honour to have had it included in the UNICA progra...

Re: Edinburgh Short Film Festival 2022 Open For Entries
Thanks for posting this, Paul. I’ll choose at least one of my recent films to put in.

Re: Film & Video Maker Magazine - Back Issues
What a pity that most of us former subscribers to Movie Maker magazine disposed of them or lost them at some point. Somebody somewhere must have a complete set and maybe they would consider selling the collection. I’d love to read again all those Ivan Watson columns… and everything else. My first ed...

Re: BIAFF 2022
If BIAFF 2022 could be a live event for all who wish to attend AND also streamed live for all who wish to remain at home, we would have the best of both worlds. I maintain my view that it should definitely go ahead in Birmingham as a live event. I find it utterly depressing to envisage a future wher...

Re: BIAFF 2022
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I’d be gutted, devastated, if the live BIAFF event in Birmingham were to be cancelled and just held on Zoom again. It’s high time we got on with life and learned to live with the virus (as we have for years with the flu virus which can kill people) otherwis...

Re: Film & Video Maker Magazine - Back Issues
Very kind of you Geoff but what I want is a collection of Movie Maker magazines which ran from the 1960s to the 1980s, the magazine that ran the Ten Best Competition.

Re: Film & Video Maker Magazine - Back Issues
What I would personally love to obtain is as complete a collection as possible of Movie Maker magazine. My old copies regrettably were lost in a house move around 20 years ago.

Re: BIAFF 2022
John, I’d be devastated if BIAFF 2022 as a live event in Birmingham was cancelled! Zoom events are a pale shadow of physical events. If you’re still a paid-up member of the IAC it’s puzzling as to why you’re not receiving FVM in the post. The most recent edition (which included my article ‘The Makin...

Re: Kids appearing in your films
Tim I’ve actually obtained the licences via Walsall Council as the child actors involved live in the Walsall area. I will email you more about this.

Re: Kids appearing in your films
Tim, my comment regarding local council licences was in connection with using actors under 16 in my films. I’ve always had full parental permission of course and have always insisted that at least one parent is present throughout every moment of filming. But whether or not a licence for every filmin...

Re: Kids appearing in your films
Yes I totally agree it is a sad state of affairs when school productions can’t be filmed and people are so paranoid about photography and filming taking place in public areas. Also there’s a grey area with regard to whether a licence from the local council is required for using actors under 16 in fi...
