Canon XM2 problem - any ideas?

Someone tried to post this message but had not registered for the forum, so their message appeared in the "failed applications" list along with all the spam. I could not find their name, but since it sounds like a genuine question - and they can read the threads without being registered - ...

The obvious choice is the Widescreen Centre. They offer the service but it should be more widely available because Super-8mm is still in use. Many students like it. http://www.widescreen-centre.co.uk/Catalogue/Motion_picture_division.html You and Linda go to so many festivals this could have happene...

Hi Guys Sorry I have been away or I'd have answered this sooner. The IAC copyright licence deals are only for normal amateur (sorry!) film use in homes, clubs and occasional festivals. If you want to use "production music" - the special CDs you can buy only through IAC or use discs bought ...

For several years now the official version of the name has been IAC - the film & video institute Several similar organisations around Europe have been finding ways to drop the word "amateur". I broadly agree ... BUT We may be in danger of focusing too much on the top end of non-commerc...

Following Billy's tip about handbooks ... An inspirational one is Rebel Without A Crew by Robert Rodriguez. It tells how he made is first movie using odd ends of 16mm film, a borrowed Arriflex and an unsynched tape recorder. He raised the cash by taking part in medical experiments. It worked! He has...

I think he had in mind the subject matter of the film more than its running-time!

Hi Guys

I have started a new thread for this part of the discussion because we are a bit off-topic here and this thread is already three pages long.

WHAT IS ENTERTAINING? WHAT IS ACCEPTABLE?

In another thread the discussion got round to the fact that many cine club audiences expect a certain kind of standardised movie. Billy from Consett said: Guys, we need to give our audiences what they want to watch. I've learned that to my cost from my earlier film attempts. At festivals like Biaff ...

Hi Laurie - and congratulations on winning the 2007 North Thames Region Festival with Weir Here . There was a scheme involving BBC, Open University, Channel Four etc to make clips available. It was called the Creative Archive Licence scheme. It ran until September 2006 and I have not heard if it wil...

Thanks, Billy. Now this could be a very useful source of links for adding to the main website's lists of links. More ideas, please! I have already put most of my sensible suggestions into the official links collection, but have not yet added one I found recently with the address: www.girls-crack-it....

Let me be clear: I love widescreen cinema. I want to have most of my vision filled with picture not curtains, pelmets, black lines etc. But all film makers have to consider their audience. What we need to know is how many of our potential audience (which is a relatively small number in most cases) c...

I'm reluctant to write here ... but we seldom stick to the themes of threads anyway, so ... For some time now a lot of professional and semi-professional sound recording has been done straight onto a computer. What may surprise some people is that you can record commercial quality music in 8 tracks ...

STEADY AS SHE GOES

It is fashionable for some commercial movies to sport the hand-held look - think of the Bourne series, parts 2 and 3. But are we getting too lax about taking steady pictures? At UNICA in Korea 300 or so enthusiasts turned up, most with camcorders ... and not a tripod in sight. Jan and I have seen hu...

The 4x3 issue is not quite so straightforward as Tom and Ian suggest. Yes, our camcorder can shoot that way. Yes, I think it is a much nicer shape of picture to look at. But the vast majority of tv sets and projection screens (and a number of older video projectors) are designed for Academy ratio. F...
