The Canadians are doing the same thing with their impressive magazine. So far as I know there is no question of IAC moving that way yet - though it may come in time. Around half of the IAC's income each year pays for the magazine. I am surprised that more clubs do not make their magazines available ...

Music!?!?
I have heard much muttering about how many award winning amateur film makers use professional actors (working for sandwiches and bus-fares). But no one seems to worry about the fact that most amateur films use professional music ... and professional music which has been paid for at the going rate. A...

When is the best time for festivals and competitions?
A conversation with a couple of festival organisers today set us all wondering when is the appropriate time to have these events. If we assume the IAC Competition is pretty much a fixture at the end of January - just to give us a starting point ... Many countries use a system whereby each region has...

I was very sceptical about memory-sticks for holding data when they first arrived but now find myself using them a lot in general computing work. For that reason I am holding fire in judging solid-state memory systems for camcorders. On the plus side is reduced size / weight / complexity which may b...

Stingman has it right - as usual. The IAC licences only cover music - not images. And they only cover it for normal amateur purposes. You can see more details on http://www.fvi.org.uk/central/copyright-clearance-scheme.htm Have a special look at the MCPS section which limits how you can have public ...

I had been hoping for even more technical enlightenment from the knowledgeable people on the forum about this. Yes most lenses give a circular image - and some of the earliest still photos were circles with fuzzy edges. Anyone who made a pinhole camera will have found the same is true of those. Quit...

Directing Actors
In another thread House (Scott Hillhouse director of "Life's Little Gaps") wrote: "As for the fun of filmmaking, I have a little speech I always give to the actors just before we shoot. I explain that if you as an individual are having a good time it will show in your character and yo...

It sounds as though the computer whose disc was changed is causing a problem. It is unlikely that it has caused physical damage to the camera hardware - that can happen but it is more likely to have upset the software in the camcorder. 1) Try resetting the software in all the cameras. If this works ...
