Re: BIAFF 2014

I can only concur; I am indeed offended at the 'booking' error which means that 50 or so IAC Members (including me are to be shunted off to the Holiday Inn). I liked the Park Inn because of it's proximity to the River. I do not like staying 'out of house' either especially after a journey of 170 mil...

Re: BIAFF 2014

"KAREN's ROOM" To my mind it is the TITLES and the INCIDENTAL music of KAREN's ROOM which indicate, at once, to the audience the type of genre which the viewer is about to watch. If the ambient music or audio had been of a threatening nature then likely as not her reaction to the stranger ...

Re: BIAFF 2014

I have just watched Geoff Harmer's short FOUR STAR film KAREN'S ROOM on VIMEO and I can testify that it is an absolutely cracking 10 minutes, with fantastic dialogue, slick edit and a charismatic leading performance. I mean, REALLY - Well done! (My 3 stars for NO WAY UP is now justified!) PS I am no...

Re: BIAFF 2014

Poor Howard-Smith! It is not uncommon for actresses to keep their bra's on in bedroom scenes in England or even in France (well perhaps not in France)! My 3 Results are 'in' and I have crept into a dark corner to lick my fur and to sharpen my pencil! I have two THREE STARS and one which is a FOUR ST...

Re: Looking Forward.

Hi, (and thank-you Col for your generous mention) I am not a great one for certificates and awards....I think, for me, it is more about being judged good enough for one's 'film' to be seen by others, both in and out of our Club System. My film ROCK BOTTOM is on VIMEO and a few years back it was sele...

Re: FVM April 2014

A most spectacular rant...well done all! I can remember in my early 20's the febrile excitement I experienced as I hurried to W.H.Smith's on the Earls Court Road in London to seek out my monthly copy of MOVIE MAKER. The Magazine was usually found on the top shelf adjacent to TIT BITS ....removing th...

Re: Rant of the Week !

I think NECA film and video probably stands for North East Cine Association. The Competition is run by the estimable Eric Parr...Tyne and Wear....and it is one of the few that offers a cash reward of £50 for the 'overall' winner. I have won the 'overalls' on several occasions and as the entry list i...

Rant of the Week !

Following my RANT of the WEEK, which concerns Video and Audio presentation, published in the current issue of FVM....I thought I would quote this unintentionally hilarious write- up from the current NOR'EASTER supplement Magazine: The NECA OPEN & HOLIDAY COMPETITION 2013. (the Block Caps are min...

Re: Banter for 2014. Positive/Negative

The problem is that We are Amateurs...and we do try to make films as 'lovers of film craft' ... however, although we love doing it, most of us are not very good at it. If a younger Member has a real Talent, Flair and Feeling for Film...he will almost certainly move on into the Professional arena...w...

Re: PLAGIARISM

Something of a fine line...I suppose....one of our top Film makers at Huddersfield has a successful film which relies heavily upon the 'published' still photography of a professional photographer. In this instance the Documentary is relating the "story" which applies to these images and I ...

Re: YOUR BIAFF 2013 RESULTS

TOM HARDWICK: Thank you for your well informed and generous critique of my modest film THE EGG. It was a delight to read your observations and remarks upon the craft of film making. You very clearly recognise and understand the effort that has to go into every shot and clip, of even a short film, in...

Re: YOUR BIAFF 2013 RESULTS

Thank-you Colin..I will check that out. Michael, I did think that your film appeared to have the best resolution of the day, from my point of view which was 'very' close to the screen. I also felt some of the wild life films looked a little soft by comparison (again from my POV)......but well lit 'H...

Re: YOUR BIAFF 2013 RESULTS

Thank-you COLIN.....I am delighted that NO WAY BACK was so well received in the BALLROOM.... You will appreciate that the film is more complex than it appears. *** First up, I must apologise for my remark in which suggested that JOHN ROBERT's film (Thinking Time - a Diamond winner) was 'buried' by b...

Re: YOUR BIAFF 2013 RESULTS

Scanning through the 'Sunday Time Table' .. I see that John Robert's Film (Thinking Time) which has been awarded one of the 8 DIAMONDs is a little buried at 9.30am (first up in the session). I can fully understand my own masterwork "NO WAY BACK" an uninhibited study of "Sexual longing...
