UNICA 2007 - in the Tatra Mountains - place available

Many of you will know that this year's UNICA Festival - the festival where nations compete rather than individuals - is coming up from 1-9th September. It takes places in the lower Tatras area of Slovakia in a town called Liptovsky-Mikulas. Many Britons are going, most of them arriving a few days ea...

I am told that the IAC scheme does NOT include internet use of music. Some - but not all - of the "royalty free" music publishers do allow the use of their music on the web. Check the licence terms on their websites. Haven't we all become very lazy about music? If we wanted a shot of a cas...

Great minds think alike ! I was wondering about that this afternoon, Ian. I suspect those in the worst areas are too busy worrying about drinking water, heating and what is happening to their homes, carpets, furniture and so on. Picking up a camcorder would not be the first thing on my mind in those...

Cotswold Festival Results

The Cotswold International Film & Video Festival results are now on its website at www.cotswoldfilmvideofest.co.uk Among the UK winners were: Amateur Gold went to Darren Cyples for "Candlelight". I think Darren is a member of Stoke CVS. Amateur Silver went to Daniel & Simon Griggs ...

No doubt I'm the last person to hear about it ... but those of us who enjoy movies should try http://www.angryalien.com/ where you get 30-second movies with animated bunnies doing abbreviated versions of great films.

I gather that the IAC 75th anniversary film did the forum proud so that might garner us a few more participants. The Chairman asked me to write about it for 'Film & Video Maker' magazine so that may help too. Oddly enough there is no IAC secretary ... not in the normal sense. There is/was a lawy...

Peter Travers is the film critic for Rolling Stone magazine and prior to that for People magazine. I think this is from a set of interviews he made for the 40th anniversary issue of Rolling Stone . It is usually said that George Lucas started some of the "blockbuster" trend by imitating th...

Stephen - bless you for even thinking about projection quality! So many places seem to think that just getting an image roughly on or near the screen is enough. If you want to get the very best results you will need two hours at least in the club rooms with the projector and a test disc. The one I u...

At this moment 22.30 in UK (which appears here as 21.30 - I will try to switch to British summer time!) there are several "Bots" from search engines: google, inktomi and yahoo among them. Guests - i.e. real people - can read the forum, but even if they try, they cannot write to it without ...

If I were the cameraman, I suspect I would have been running to the toilets, Willy! What an awesome responsibility. Knowing you, though, my guess is that your main concern would be for the dignity of the occasion, so that nothing would detract from the remembrance of those young men who died in the ...

Don't stop bringing us back to the subject, Roy. We tend to veer off onto judging because all too often we only consider serious aspects of film making in the context of competitions and judging. For my part I like some "modern" techniques but not the extremes. It becomes a matter of taste...

Hi Peter, thanks for getting the poll working ... that's where your wide experience of forums (?fora) shows!

I've removed the previous attempt at setting up a poll to reduce the confusion.

I am! In some ways I've been doing that for years. Although I have been interested in amateur movie making since childhood I am not a movie maker. I am an enthusiastic watcher of movies - professional and amateur. I was recruited by various competition organisers to help judge and to bring just that...

IDEAS FOR CLUB MEETINGS

There is a lot to be said for getting together with anyone who shares your enthusiasm - sometimes to learn, sometimes to teach, and always to encourage each other. That's one good reason for movie making clubs. The catch is sorting out what kind of events could be offered to club members. So for the...

IAC 75 ... Bradford, IMAX and all that

So how did it all go?

I have heard privately that the selection of movies shown on the enormous screen looked great - maybe even a little too bright.

Those who were there ... please tell us what we missed!
