Re: About Death (Sobre la Muerte)
It is disappointing when a film which wins a film festival is not able to be seen by Joe Bloggs when they go onto the festival results site. Could it be because these films have ben elevated to Amazon Prime? (After the competition!)

Re: FVM June 2021
I notice on the cover of FVM it says "Serving Members Since 1932" . At that time amateur filmmaking must have been very new and exciting and probably expensive. Probably mainly done by men, something new to entertain the family, The introduction of commercial films on video was something s...

Re: THE BIAFF WEEKEND
I think limiting amateur filming to good-will and guerrilla filming for film sets. And not feeling able to set a budget for costume hire is again limiting. Some of the sketches we see on TV such as "the Mitchell and Webb look" would not be very special without the costumes and setting. I s...

Re: THE BIAFF WEEKEND
I wonder what the £4000 budget was spent on? Some of it could have been used for entrance fees for film festivals. I think £4000 is a reasonable amount of expenses to be spent on an amateur short film. Even if you are making a club film they are not cost free, there is the hire of the hall, yearly i...

Re: THE BIAFF WEEKEND
When you see a "short" with lots of laurels on the thumbnail it gives the feeling that the makers are serious about their efforts. Ofcourse part of their crowdfunding budget has been for entering their film at festivals, I think some of the entry fees can be quite high.

Re: THE BIAFF WEEKEND
I think it will only be available temporarily, so probably not worth putting it on the website. What is the proceedure for getting the BIAFF Laurel Wreath on a film, does anyone know? What award do you have to get to warrant it?

Re: THE BIAFF WEEKEND
I was one of the judges for "Elisir" which is a drama spoken in Sardinian with English subtitles. I liked the film, and the subtitles were done well, it is 25 minutes long, having the responsibility of judgeing it was an intense watch, not wanting to lose the story line. I see the BIAFF Fo...

Re: Nostalgia
I suppose we are at the beginning of a new Zoom era, and what we had before may never come back the same - one thing I've noticed about clubs and zoom is that often everyone is invited to meetings from all over the country, so we may get some clubs specialising in certain types of film, say animatio...

Re: Horror Adrenaline Rush
The last time I went to a mainstream film was to take my young neice to watch Pirates of the Caribbean, more than 10 years ago. It was so loud, I could not wait for it to be over, I had the same experiences previously with the Lord of the Rings films, far too many battles and all much too loud for m...

Re: Horror Adrenaline Rush
I did not know anything about "Quiet Place" but just watched the trailer on YouTube. It seemed very creepy and atmospheric. I can only imagine the scare factor in a modern cinema with all that surround sound stuff, which I know nothing about because I only watch films on the small screen. ...

Re: Horror Adrenaline Rush
I think you are getting carried away with the thought of a cash cow, the idea of an exploding cow would certainly be abdominal.

Horror Adrenaline Rush
Up to now I thought people who liked horror films were in the minority, but I was wrong. Horror is the cash cow of the film industry. Horror makes money. I don’t like watching horror because it just makes me frightened without an adrenaline rush; but I might find it fun making a spoof horror film wi...

Thanks for putting up Red Rock Blues, it makes more sense now. I like feel good films and happy endings, one ending of Red Rock Blues nearly fits into the happy ending part! Hugh Grant in About A Boy is one of my favourite films. I think the man should have taken up Amateur Moviemaking as a retireme...
