Re: UNICA 2021

Ned, well said but similar thoughts have been expressed by thoughtful people for two or three years now. It is a problem. Young people are making more films now than were ever made at any time since the 1930s. Older people like you and I are also wondering why we continue making the considerable eff...

They are all 'self isolating' in their sunny gardens! Or suffering from the dreaded plague.

Re: BIAFF 2020 RESULTS

I've just broken a World Record! I bet that I'm the only multiple Diamond winner ever to have gained a One Star! I also got a Two and a Three so I'm definitely out of favour. I thought that they shot them, I'd better be careful. I'm growing old but next year I'll be younger as I'm reversing the numb...

Re: COVID-19

Fear and panic as far as food shopping is concerned yes, I've only just obtained an Ocado delivery slot after a week trying. Fear and panic as far as illness goes? No. I know of quite a few people dying, mostly older ones,my wife has it and a daughter had it. Amazing how differently it is affecting ...

Re: COVID-19

I have a complicated documentary in edit currently so am not bored at all! I've been using We Transfer to share files with people and I suggest that many of us can share films in this way. It's 'infection proof'!

Re: magix movie edit pro

No, but I can tell you that the simplest and best editing system is still Media 100, which I have used ever since I switched from 16mm film to digital. It is not now being updated by Boris and you can get it free (I think). If I can use it, anyone can!!

Re: UNICA and the age old question

I think that Howard-Smith has really hit on something here. The definition that he quotes is us EXACTLY! As an adjective could not avocationary fit the bill? I got the dreaded red line when typing that so maybe not. IAC would then still be the apt initials.

Sorry Cathy, I'm with the other two on this. Visuals, in all things (except radio) are prime. I appreciate your urge to "update" the magazine, but with smaller pictures?

Re: Da Vinci Resolve 15 & possibly 16

No comments on Resolve (Media 100 for me and much too old to change!), but well done Tim, great promo video. Really good, although I never like split screen. The music of course helped you enormously, did they record that just for you?

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

Tim's suggestion of a 'film makers data base' seems a very interesting and modern way of uniting him makers, which is what the IAC is meant to do. Speaking personally, if I want to discuss any thing with a fellow film maker I telephone or E Mail friends within the IAC more often than not. If there w...

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

This thread has covered so many different aspects that it's difficult now to join in. As one of the oldest IAC members (both in age and membership years) there are some things that I'd like to say. As someone has already mentioned, we can't harp back to the old days, pre digital, even pre television...

Willy, you should know by now that Big Dave is a very important guy and it is always very difficult to steal a couple of minutes with him at these events.
No offence I hope David?

Re: Hard disk drive failure

Tim, alien invasion seems by far the most likely of your projected disasters. Sorry about my naming drives internal or external. I always regard the computer drive to be different from ones we attach temporarily for access to files not available from the computer.

Re: Hard disk drive failure

I meant "the thoughts" of us old men! By the way, I never put media on my computer drive, that's just for operation, what about other people?

Re: Hard disk drive failure

Are we talking external storage drives here as opposed to the drives actually in the computer, SSD or not? My computer drives are raided so would be unlikely to lose stuff unless all the drives failed at once. External drives are a different matter. I have a variety of these, merely used as archives...
