Re: Apologies for Missing BIAFF

Hi Michael. I saw your film and it was in the same programme as ours. You will probably be pleased to know that it went down very well to a literally room-busting audience. I counted about 60 people squeezed into a medium sized room. The seats were all taken when I arrived and more chairs were broug...

Re: IAC International Judging ...

Just when you thought this thread was dying gracefully, here comes that stirrer Ken Wilson again. Well that is an old chestnut, "What is an amateur film? This could (and has) gone on at great length. Lots of interesting comments from Ned, Billy and Willy, before we went off on a bit of a tangen...

Re: IAC International Judging ...

Hi "Fraught." No we will not be there on Sunday. After (a very early) breakfast, we will have to leave. We are at Chesterfield on Friday and Saturday, but have some paid work to do on Sunday, so for the first time since 1996, we cannot see any of the Sunday shows. If you are not there on F...

Re: Bernhard Hausberger

So sorry to hear this sad news. I met Bernhard at the last couple of BIAFF events. He was introduced to me by Mary and Peter Rouillard. His acceptance speeches were very moving. Powerful stuff. It sounded worrying when it was announced at the last Guernsey festival that he had hoped to be there, but...

Re: IAC International Judging ...

Fraught said: I feel your pain Ken, as i've been there. Film making in whatever genre is an art form... and art is very subjective. Example, Empire magazine hail Eraserhead as a "5 Star Film" and a piece of "Cinema History". My view of Eraserhead is that its overly long, pompous...

Re: IAC International Judging ...

A bit belatedly, here are my comments..and some judges comments, from our BIAFF results. I sat on these for nearly 2 weeks, not literally of course, but for one thing, I wanted to gather my thoughts and for another there was some work on the house to do first. I congratulate the writers here who wer...

Hi to Billy and to "Fraught." I am really glad that you are both happy with the feedback that you received. Each year that the competition and festival has run, both have been adjusted and re-adjusted to try to improve what we do, what we say and what feedback we give out and receive back....

I would like to thank Dave and his wife Jan Watterson for coming to spend a day here with us to judge the 22 films we received. Numbers were slightly down as we had 27 last year and until the final few days I was concerned that we would not have enough movies for a decent competition. However, as Da...

Guernsey: there was only one bad thing!

There WAS only one (bad) thing about Guernsey and that was the uncomfortable seats in the hotel. But that isn`t unique to La Villette hotel. For me it is all hotels and all festivals. In fact it is also airline seats too, so perhaps is is just me. Though Bob Lorrimer commented on it when collecting ...

The Phase 4 Fiction Film Competition 2008

I thought that I had better make a re-appearance to make a mention on the site about our forthcoming film competition. 2008 will be our 4th fiction competition (not the 3rd which I incorrectly added to the promotional material I originally sent to Garth, editor of FVM.) We have steadily increased th...

[quote="Ken Wilson The films were a mixed bag and I must say, many were not to my taste. Insects are not as fascinating to me as they obviously are to many film makers. Lots of bugs, Praying Mantis` eating their partners and large hairy spiders would not be my preferred choice of Sunday entert...

BIAFF at Harrogate

Well I can confirm what Billy said ... the Friday night one-minute movie show was plagued with problems of the hiccuping video kind. Sunday's gala screening did not reflect well on NERIAC - frankly it looked amateurish in the wrong way. Hi folks; I haven`t got round to adding my thoughts on the for...

Re: IAC 75 ... Bradford, IMAX and all that

So how did it all go? I have heard privately that the selection of movies shown on the enormous screen looked great - maybe even a little too bright. Those who were there ... please tell us what we missed! Ken says: Carol and I went. It was a superbly comfortable way to watch films, very relaxing w...

Re: Future BIAFFs - what (if anything) needs change?

People have been very complimentary about BIAFF 2007 and have rightly noted various things which worked well. Now let us turn our thoughts to the future. BIAFF 2008 will be in Harrogate BIAFF 2009 will be in Chesterfield We have already had the suggestion that the Isle of White would be a possible ...
