Re: IMAX: too big for its boots

I may be wrong, but I think it was shot on Red Epic and delivered at 4k.

Nothing like enough for IMAX. IMAX film runs something in excess of 8K

Re: Blackmagic Camera

Coming back. I've been using a DSLR, but only because my HVX got nicked and the insurance wouldn't pay out (Long story) Sound has been double system recorded on a Marantz solid-state recorder, which I'll use when I get my BMC. Granted the BMC probably isn't the best choice for free-form docco...

Re: Blackmagic Camera

@ned c I'm doing narrative shorts, in fact my first has its club premier in the 16th, after that I'll put it up for discussion. I've another two in pre, one will be a sequel that involves a lot of compositing, the other is a comedy heist. Up to now I've been using a DSLR (550D) but really want raw f...

Re: Blackmagic Camera

Yep, I'm daveswan on that too.

Some of the negativity has been quite off-putting.

I've to a halfway-decent 'pod and some glass (But not short, a 12mm f/1.6 is on the list!).

Now to build up my storage and look for SSDs

I'll get there bit-by-bit (The same way you eat a computer :D )

Blackmagic Camera

OK, who's up for buying one of these? I know I am, and I think FredD may be too, who else? And if you are thinking of getting one, have you thought through everything else you might need  ? SSDs still aren't *that* cheap and raw will fill them up quickly, 500GB/hr roughly. So, let's see who r...

Re: BIAFF IAC Professionalism?

Just as an aside. When Amateur Photographer magazine run APOY, I believe the criterion for "amateur" status is not more than 10% of the person's earning should come from photography. Something to consider? But as for bringing in outsiders, my little short which will soon get its club premi...

Re: just finished my 1st script

Have a go with Celtx, it's free and pretty well forces you to use the "correct" format. Which is the "correct" format for a reason, as it makes everything very clear.

Re: just finished my 1st script

Having just finished (Yeah, right!) my first short film, I can say don't try to be director and DP unless you are very experienced at both. I did, DP, camera op, AND 1st AC and it shows on many shots, in fact I had to use a less than perfectly framed take (Good performance) because the best had an a...

Re: Insurance

When I was filming on location I needed 3rd party and employers liability. I went with Essesx Insurance ( Specialist media cover. Can't remember the address, but a google should do it.) As it was small crew / low budget <10 people on site / < £1000 I got 3 months to cover the shoot for £115 or so. £...

Re: QUO VADIS? Where are we going?

Just looked again at my last post and can't believe how many typos crept through. Corrected now.

I blame this keyboard which is fine for controling Avid but hopeless for typing.

Re: QUO VADIS? Where are we going?

Our club doesn't even project in HD yet (Though I'm hoping to push that) but we do have a Blu-Ray player (That I bought them to break the Catch 22 situation, no Blu-Ray, so no HD proj), and one of our members still edits SD even though he has a Sony FX1 (Why???). Mike, I run MC6 on a basic Sandybrid...

Re: QUO VADIS? Where are we going?

FredD's not the only one. I have a m4/3 BMC on order from CVP. When I'll get it is anyone's guess. In the mean time i'm upgrading my workstation to handle 2.5k DNGs an Resolve. Now up to 16 gig ram, Quadro 600 for GUI and GTX 570 for Resolve. Oh yes, and I nearly forgot, writing a script worth filmi...

Re: Mini DV tape - the era's end?

no new cameras will be introduced that record to Mini DV in the same way as no new cameras will be introduced for VHSc, Digital8, Hi8, MicroMV and so on. tom. Creative Video lists the Sony PD 175E Mini DV (DVCAM) camcorder at £2580 (Last time I looked) It's an up-to-date model with three lens rings...

Re: Canon 7D

Hi Tom, any idea when this will be available? And for what cams?
I've just bought a 550D to learn on, but I'm editing in Avid MC3, waiting for MC5.
SOP is to transcode to DNxHD which then plays and edits beautifully.
Cheers,
Dave
